Using Oracle 8i enterprise on win 2000 (sp3)
Installed the standard configuration & whenever I make a connection it
takes about 10 secs. It's running on a P1900 with 1gb Ram so no reason
there for slowness.
Once I'm connected the queries work pretty much instantanously but to
connect using SQLPLUS, Toad, ODBC, OLEDB all take about 10 secs. I
connect using OLEDB from Visual Basic development environment & after
the 1st connection...

I'm a new Oracle user.
I've installed Oracle 9i on a Linux RedHat machine V9.0 and it's running.
I took a Windows XP machine and installed the Oracle client on it along with
PL/SQL developer from All-Around-Software.
I try to connect and I get an error message ORA-12545 "Connect failed
because target host or object does not exist".

Hi,
let's say, if have a tree of objects described in XML syntax.
Not all nodes in the tree are of the same objects type.
But there are some
- choice nodes
which have children, from which only one is valid
for traversing the tree
- collection nodes
which have children, which all need to be evaluated

I have a simple table that I'd like to query to pull
out a heirarchy from a tree relationship. What is the
best way to do this without a 'CONNECT BY' clause like
Oracle has?
Example
mytable
+----------+-----------+
| child_id | parent_id |

I am working on an Access 2002/Oracle vba automated overnight process.
The problem is there is one user with rights to a certian set of tables
and another user with a certain set of tables. I can't run the
overnight process with just one login. Currently, I am having problems
with relogging into the database with a different login.
Even when I enter a different userid and password into a connection
string, the system seems to still use...

What's the best way of implementing a multi-node tree in C++? What I'm
trying to do is traverse a tree of possible chess moves given an intial
position (at the root of the tree). Since every chess position has
around 30 moves, it would mean every node of the tree would have 30
branches (on average), which in turn themselves would average about 30
branches each.
I can think of a variety of ways of implementing this, including a
series...

I'm attempting to write some SQL code in Oracle 10g to pull data from a tree structure. Basically, I have a users table, and each user is assigned to a manager. (The user's manager's ID is kept in the manager field of the user's entry in the users table.) From this tree structure, I want to pull a list of all users who report either directly or indirectly to a particular division head (top level manager). I imagine that this query would...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
