Do not trust values returned by materialized views under SQL Server
without frequently checking underlying tables!!!
I already posted this message under microsoft.public.sqlserver.server
and I'm amazed nobody from Microsoft answered about this problem. By
inserting lots of data into our two main tables for about 30 minutes,
we can fail our materialized view that performs a count_big on those
two tables.
Executing (after of course...

Hi,
I am trying to locate documentation on using views across databases.
We have serveral databases broken down by application, some shared
databases and some location specific databases supporting multiple
facilities using the applications. The DBA for our client is the one
that set up the topology of these databases but I don't understand the
performance considerations of having views in an applictation database
referencing tables in...

This is a general question regarding the use of view and stored
procedures. I'm fairly new to databases and SQL.
I've created a SQL database using an Access Data Project ("ADP") and
I'm satified with the table structure. I've moved on to building some
front ends for our users.
I'm running into situations where I want subreports to be built from
queries that are dependent on the values in other controls.
I've played with stored...

We frequently keep running into the same set of inconsistent practices
around models and views and would like some other opinions.
1) There is no such thing as a "Controller" in C#. Developers keep
creating them, but in the purist sense they can't exist in C#. The View
and Controller are always one.
2) Exposing the internal structure of the Model to pass its contents to
something else (often another model) is bad. Let's say the model's...

Currently you can create temporary tables that are deleted at the end of the
session. But how about temporary views? It's just a table with a rule so I
don't imagine it would be terribly difficult. Are there any issues I havn't
thought of?
While we're at it, what about temporary functions?

Hi!
Situation two schemas:
webviews: Contains a set of views with insert rules on them, accessed
via a GUI.
devconf: "Business logic", all the tables, functions, triggers that I
want to restrict access to as far as possible.Preferably, I wouldn't
even grant usage to the schema.

Just wondering, is updateable views slated for a
future version of Postgresql? In addition to using
rules that is.

Hello all,
i have a view defined as a simple select of a table.
This table is inherited by a couple of others.
All entries belong to the child-tables.
I also have an unconditional update rule on the view.
If i do an update to the view, the update is rewritten
to update the father-table.

I created an updateable view, which joins two tables, in a DB2 UDB
database. The view was made updateable by the creation of an "instead
of" trigger. I'd like to use this view for updates via QMF for Windows
or DB2 Table Editor. However, when I try to update from either of
these tools, I receive an SQL0150 error. Is there anything I can do to
allow the updates, such as update the READONLY value for the view in
the catalog table? ...

Fellow database developers,
I would like to draw on your experience with views. I have a database
that includes many views. Sometimes, views contains other views, and
those views in turn may contain views. In fact, I have some views in
my database that are a product of nested views of up to 6 levels deep!
The reason we did this was.
1. Object-oriented in nature. Makes it easy to work with them.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
