Hi All,
I've written a few C functions in the version 1 format as well as some SPI
based backend bits and I'm curious as to how PG treats these items when used
within plpgsql.
The set of functions control external processes. One function is called with
various items governed by the db, does a fork and then execl to from the
child to start a new process. Whilst it's not posix i ignore the SIGCHLD
signal and let the parent process...

I copied an example from the help:
CREATE FUNCTION somefunc() RETURNS integer AS '
DECLARE
quantity integer := 30;
BEGIN
RAISE NOTICE ''Quantity here is %'', quantity; -- Quantity here is 30
quantity := 50;
--
-- Create a subblock

Hi all,
a few days ago, I upgraded from PostgreSQL 7.2.1 to 7.4, following
the instructions in the INSTALL file, including dump and restore.
All this worked fine without any error (message).
Since then, I found lots of the following in the postmaster output:
2003-11-29 15:19:54 ERROR: large object 4838779 does not exist
2003-11-29 15:20:11 ERROR: large object 4838779 does not exist

Hi,
i have a question about how to handle postgresql constraint errors in
the client app. I found some mails in the archive about it, too. But
i have still so many questions about how to do it, where to check it
and how to display a good error message. I would love to hear some
comments about my ideas:

Hi,
Thought perhaps some other eyes than mine can tell if I'm doing
something wrong here or if there's a bug somewhere. I've never
passed a ROWTYPE varaible to a function but I don't see where
the problem is.
I keep getting errors like (the first is my debug output):
NOTICE: last cycle is: 11
WARNING: Error occurred while executing PL/pgSQL function

hi!
I tried to extend the grammer for plpgsql by editing
postgresql-7.4.3/src/pl/plpgsql/src/gram.y
but as soon as you compile it (even without any changes)
it gives an error
user$ make
bison -y -d gram.y

Hi
I tried creating the function (from sec 19.3.1). But it gives me the
following error: "ERROR: type tablename does not exist".
Any ideas of what i might be doing wrong?
CREATE FUNCTION use_many_fields(tablename) RETURNS TEXT AS '
DECLARE
in_t ALIAS FOR $1;
BEGIN
RETURN in_t.f1 || in_t.f3 || in_t.f5 || in_t.f7;

(PostgreSQL 8.0 beta 4 on Mac OS X 10.3.6)
I'm working on a function which creates and populates a temporary
table, then returns the number of records it has inserted. I'm getting
an error, though, after successive invocations of the function (I can
call it once successfully, but on the next call I get an error). I've
been able to reproduce the error with the following sample function:
create or replace function test() returns...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
