greying out form boxes

2 New Member
I want to have a checkbox, that when uncheck greys out some form textboxes, and check, makes them edible, (in order to make relevant questions required to be awnsered.)

An example of this would be

A check box, Are you retired?, if unchecked the form that asks howlong would not have any relevance so it's greyed out, if checked the form has relavance so it becomes edible content.

If possible I would like to do this directly in html, but I don't think that will be possible. I'm not quite sure how to go about it, I'm thinking that I can have the php check if the box is checked or not, however, I'm not sure if php is "live" code, Or in other words, The page would have to reparse???

Is there a way to do this in php?

or, I guess I could always check if the box is checked and that would affect if that form field is required, but I'ld rather grey it out. Later on I might need help on how to tell the user that they missed to fill out a required form field

If you want the checking and greying to be done 'real time', you'd have to use JavaScript.

Hi. Am I missing something, or is there no way of greying out irrelevant form fields on the basis of the contents of the rest of the form? Thanks, Rob
