If PhpNuke Sucks, What Does Not?

PhpNuke is the worse written PHP script as I heared then what does not suck?
I need a fast, simple, CMS. I don't need that many hacks. No MySQL is the
best. CMS is about news, and forum. I found something called txtForum and
simpleboard both are not MySQL based. I assume the forum is the most MySQL
consuming application. News can just be put in text file. I like the idea to
update HTML files from PHP files. I wrote something to change every link of
PHP to a HTML so whenever there is a update, I update all HTML file on the
apache, then all visitors will only need to get the HTML, faster and has a
last-modified date for search engine. Smart or Stupid?

Since I'm involved with and using Xoops a lot, I'm kinda prejudiced. But
I'd definitely have a look at e107 and mambo.

You can try out all kinds of CMS at opensourcecms.com, including the
admin sections. Check out their 40+ systems and find something you like.

I only have 1 MySQL with 50 connections.
I have heard bad code is slow and open to hackers.

"Bad" code is not necessarily slow. Often it is the (good)
object oriented code in applications like Xoops, EZpublish,
Typo3, etc. that slow down things tremendously in PHP. If you
need a textual based CMS try PHPcms.

You need a forum : phpBB
You need a way to update news : put news in text files, read the file using php functions
and include the text somewhere on a page

This isn't fancy but it will work and you don't seem like you want a whole lot of fluff.

I quite like Mambo Siteserver myself. Although I've never used it
in a production site (I'd much rather just write my own)

I don't now if i would recommend it any more. I know everybody use it
but this does not make it better. I simply find the useability very
bad, no threading, no compact display, bad personalisation etc.

But i'm still looking for something that match my preferences.

I personally like MamboServer.com Web-Portal I use that along with
osCommerce on my production server. It works well for me. I can spend
my time writing the serious code that I need to do, instead of writing
content.

I am also biased, being in the development crew, but I would suggest you to give a look to Drake CMS; the first beta release will be available the 1st of August, but it is possible for everybody to test it in this alpha stage
