TV schedule?

I've seen this on a number of TV sites, where on the front page they
tell you what's playing at the time you're browsing, what's coming up
next, etc. I want to do this for a site I'm working on, but I have no
idea where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction or
give me a few pointers? Thanks.

I would start by becoming quite proficient at using the date() features
and functions .

Bump in some data and display the selected stuff on your front page
using the server time to decide whats info gets grabbed and displayed .

We値l basically this is not more then a calendar script, with a front
and backend. On The backend you can add the tv schedule and on the
frontend the whole thing is presented in a nice looking way. You
probably can modify a simple calendar script to fix your needs!

How would you get the TV schedule in the back-end? Would you use an RSS
feed for that?

Its all RSS (XML) feeds, you would not need to develop a front/back end
system for it.

I was planning on using a calendar script to basically make it into an
event calendar and using that, yeah. I'm just lost as to how to call
upon the specific events still. I'm painfully new to php. I've dabbled
in it before, but never coding anything more than tweaking message
board stuff and the like.

That's what I was thinking, using an RSS feed. But this is a little
different than using a headline feed, as it's not really calling upon
the last 5 headlines but rather an event for that specific time, as
well as the next 4 events (for the "up next" feature).

So, I guess I gotta learn RSS and php, eh? :)

Search for "xmltv" which has multiple grabbers that extract TV listings from
various sites and turn it into an XML format.

But each feed has its own terms and conditions; certainly the UK one I use is
"for personal use only" so using the data on a public website would be in
breach of those conditions.

Yes.
And don't forget to have fun doing so. :-)
