I'm relatively new to PHP/MySQL and I've heard about maintaining a
persistent connection to the database. To save overhead, I'd like to
maintain the connection in a session variable, but I have a few
questions first.
I'm able to establish session variables and test them with isset() to
avoid re-defining them with each new web-page load. So is this really
as simple as
if (!isset($_SESSION)) {

Hi, my first time posting on a newsgroup. anyway, let's cut to the
chase.
I'm trying to migrate mysql database form one server to another server.
So I copied the data from /var/lib/mysql to the other one.. and use
INSERT INTO from the old database to the new one..so the Top level
'mysql' database has all the correct users and password and priviledge.
however, when one of the php website trying to load..it'll say

Hi!
I'm working on program that acts as MySQL client. After successful connection
program send queries for a long time. When I stop server mysql_query return
error (no surprise). But when I start server my program recieve information
again without connection reinitialization.
I suppose MySQL server track connections somehow but I didn't find any info
about it in documentation. Can somebody point me to docs or explain this
behaviour?

Got a simple problem.
I code some site and because Im a freak I made my own session-handling.
When a user open up my site it will check if there is a ssid in the url
if not generate one. this will be done by a function generate_ssid() and works fine.
next step is to register the ssid in the table session

Hello all,
I come to you to getting help for managing multi threading and database connection.
My project use Xml-Rpc to receive messages, so each call come from a different
thread.
Incoming calls are executing SQL on a MysqlConnection.
MysqlConnection does not like when concurents calls appends.
For a fast and dirty solution, I've put a Monitor() at messages arrived.

Recently, I began using a different MySQL verver (i.e. different machine as

but now fails with:

I've converted a latin1 database I have to utf8. The process has been:
# mysqldump -u root -p --default-character-set=latin1 -c --insert-ignore
--skip-set-charset mydb mydb.sql
# iconv -f ISO-8859-1 -t UTF-8 mydb.sql mydb_utf8.sql

Hi Guys,
Last year I got a chance to work with R&D team, which was working on DB scripts conversion..
Though there is migration tool available, it converts only tables and constraints..
Rest of things (stored procedures, functions).. we have to manually edit.
That time, we face some interesting challenges.. I failed to document all of them, but whatever I can share with u.. I will try.. :)
