There are some Mac tools to convert pretty much any given video source
to a Flash video file (.flv) but I'm wondering if there is any way to
do it using a Linux platform tying in to a PHP web system? I.e. I'd
like to have video files submitted by users which are then
auto-converted to .flv files.

Hi all,
I want users of my website community to be able to upload video files.
I'd like to automatically convert these on the server to flash video.
I'd also like to get a screen shot from the video to show on my video
links. Basically, just like YouTube. Can anybody point me to some

I have a gallery-like application. (The gallery will be actually presented
in Flash, but the management (cms) of the images will be in asp.net. )
My question is, is it ok to create Thumbnail images on the fly by resizing
the original sending it to the output stream (i.e. Response.ContentType =
"image/jpeg"; Response.BinaryWrite(imageContent) ), or best to actually save
the thumbnails to disk.

Hi, I wrote a program which will use ffmpeg to convert media files. Media files can be converted with this string array being passed in to Runtime.getRunTime().exec:
String cmd = {ffmpeg path, "-i", input file, output file};
However with the above method I couldn't set any options like "-s 176x144" for the output file's resolution, meaning if I use the following string array:
String cmd ={ffmpeg path, "-i", input, "-s 176x144", output};...

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
