Heya, Faroz.

A blog is a specialized CMS. I'd start with learning how to build a basic CMS (don't worry about fancy features like versioning and translation; just get the basic save-content-in-a-database-and-retrieve-it behavior working).

For more information, give Google a whirl (http://www.google.com/search?q=php+cms+tutorial).

If you just want ideas on what to develop then there are loads of things you could do - just let your imagination run wild and have a go.

Try a cataloguing service - enabling people to catalogue there CD's books etc, create groups of people who can see catalogues that sort of thing. Or you could build a gift list - this could be created by the recipient or by someone else - so friends and family can see what to get and keep the list up to date.

See, there's two ideas off the top of my head. I may even build the second one myself.

The important thing is to start with the basics and build up from there. If you can already programme in another language the learning curve shouldn't be too steep.

Cheers

Hello everyone I'm looking for seminar topics (and project ideas too) for my final year in Computer Engineering. I'm considering doing something on C++/Linux, considering that I love it so much -- I'm still learning it though. The topic could be anything computer-related at all, anything new and interesting perhaps :) Perhaps a research topic.

Hi I'm about to start my third, and final, year in computer science at cambridge uni, and i need to come up with an idea for a software project, but i'm really struggling for ideas, and i was wondering whether anyone here had any suggestions. I'd say i'm probably most experienced in Java, but I have started learning Python, and although i haven't got very far yet, I plan on doing some more in the next few weeks.

Hi, Sorry, it's gonna be a bit off-topic but I'm looking for experienced ..NET (c#) developers and I guess there're quite many here. I'm looking for a topic for my final year project (B.sc). It has to do with .NET and preferably something with network programming (webservices) I'd like to learn something interesting and practical as well. Have you got any ideas?! Thanks,

Hi all, I'm doing my FYP using csharp and MS Outlook to develope a plugin app. My question isn't about programming as such, Its more about project managment. Does anybody have a good URL that could inform me on how to appraoch a software development project? There are two of us on the project, we are not computer science students but Arts students who took IT as a joint degree along with psychology.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
