Hi there. I am experimenting with Apache/MySQL/PHP to set up a contact list.
Background
Am a bit of a dabbler. Downloaded MySQL 5.0.67 for windows and Apache 2.2.9 with OpenSSL-0.9.8h-r2 and PHP 5.2.6 to experiment on my PC with WinXP with SP2 before perhaps trying a Linux server system.
Full install of MySQL and Apache both work separately. But a full install of PHP failed. Now I wish to uninstall PHP and try a default PHP install but the uninstall fails. Even the repair (start/control panel/add programs/change) did not help.
First Question:
Is there a way to uninstall PHP and start over on Win XP with SP2 or is a system restore the best solution?
Second Question:
A product called WampServer mentions Apache 2.2.8/MySQL 5.0.51b/PHP 5.2.6 - has anyone experimented with WampServer?
Third Question:
This raises inter-product compatability issues with a follow on question being:
Has anyone got Apache 2.2.9 ssl to work with MySQL 5.0.67 and PHP 5.2.6?

Hi.
How did the PHP installation fail?
Installing PHP isn't all that complex, even without the installer program.
Simply getting the zip package from php.net, unzipping that into a directory, adding the directory to the PATH variable and setting up the PHP module in Apache should do the trick.
(Unless I'm forgetting something. Ages since I did this on Windows :P)
Never tried Wamp or anything like it, but I've heard good things about XAMPP.
As to the SSL thing, I recently set up a Linux server to develop on. I just used Ubuntu server and installed everything from their package repositories.
If your setting up a simple development server I would highly recommend this. Very easy to to set up and maintain, and it is supposed to be one of the more secure Linux servers.
Took a little effort but I got SSL running on that to, although I have only tried it with self-signed certificates.
Server signiture reads as:
Apache/2.2.8 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.4-2ubuntu5.3 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8g
Would have prefered the latest versions of course, but I didn't really feel it was worth the effort of compiling and configuring it myself. (Plus I'm lazy :P)
Hi Atli. Thanks for the response
Have been quite busy with other stuff and am a bit rusty with this stuff - hence the dumb PHP install combined with the fact that the times I have played with Apache it has been on Linux. Did a compile of apache 2.0.47 with Tomcat 4.29 & mod_jk for a web map server but that was on RedHat 9 or Fedora and it was ages ago. Being rusty and lacking a Linux Box I thought windows would be easier :-( - obviously not.......
The unzipping/windows path option seems better than an installer option - easier to remove too if it fails as one never knows what an installer does.
OK. Where did PHP install fail.....Should have read the manual first :-(
Warning the manual said - dont install everything - obviously I had. Thus my calls for help here.
Did do a system restore though and had a look at WampServer (Apache 2.2.8/MySQL 5.0.51b/PHP 5.2.6). It seems to manage the Apache/MySQL/PHP compatability connection stuff in windows.
XAMPP seems better for what it contains though. I have a clean windows PC now and may try XAMPP for windows or WampServer and try not to use an installer. Windows ver has Apache 2.2.9-OpenSSL0.9.8h/PHP5.2.6.
As an aside, I do want to set up either MapServer or Deegree (web map servers) on Linux so may just install Ubuntu or Red Hat or Fedora. Just completed an MSc in GIS and have data to diseminate.
I see that a Tomcat extension exists for XAMPP so I guess it is the one stop shop :-)
Again. Thanks for the XAMPP referal that looks good.

Hi, I struggled, and got mod_python running on Apache/Win2k. Follow
these instructions verbatim and you shouldn't have any trouble. These
instructions are based on
"http://www.modpython.org/live/current/doc-html/inst-testing.html".
I've added specific information such as Windows filepaths and
filenames so there's no ambiguity on what you should do. I encourage
you to copy and paste to avoid typing errors.
Cheers,

Hello,
I am testing a web application (using the DBX PHP function to call a
Postgresql backend).
I have 375Mb RAM on my test home box.
I ran ab (apache benchmark) to test the behaviour of the application
under heavy load.
When increasing the number of requests, all my memory is filled, and the
Linux server begins to cache and remains frozen.

Hello,
I've recently installed apache on a new computer, and cannot figure out why my site will not process any includes. (it was working on my old one) There are no errors on the page such as "include not found", rather much of the page is blank where the included menus, etc would be, and the CSS is not attached.
thanks so much!!!

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp

Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
