Re: Issues starting a session *and* setting a cookie

Hmm. Yeah, as I mentioned I didn't want to clobber folks with 300+
lines of PHP. I was more asking if there were any general gotchas with
doing this sort of thing. For what's it's worth I fixed this issue by
extending the life of the cookie and changing the times when PHP does
session garbage collection.

So, cut it down to a few lines which shows the problem.

But glad you got it fixed. We wouldn't have been able to do anything
more than guess without the code. And that could have taken days.

I'm trying to find out some of the details behind OOP state management with SQL Server. For instance - how long does the session object live on any server? Is it created and destoyed with each page request? - will each reading of a session variable cause a round trip to the DB server? or does the complete session live within the HttpContext object? - when asp.net session state is enabled (in any mode), after a session has been created,...

I have an asp.net app that uses session objects (ag. session("UserID")). The app works fine in development/debug mode. I released it to the test server (Windows 2000 server with other .NET applications running on it) and when I am sitting at that server running the application, it also runs fine. But, if I sit at any workstation on the LAN it does not work. I narrowed the problem down to the fact that all of the session objects contain...

Hi Patrick! Can you give an example of how to use a frameset inside an aspx-file? When I create a new frameset in Visual Studio.Net it just gives me a htm-File. Or give me a link where I can find one? Thanks Werner P.S. Somehow I did not manage to do a followup in Googles newsgroups.

I have an app that was originally 1.1, now migrated to 2.0 and have run into some sporadic viewstate errors...usually saying the viewstate is invalid, eventvalidation failed or mac error. Hello all. I am trying to manage session data with out ever setting session cookies on the client user's side. I understand that by setting values in the Session object, a cookie is set on the client side with the value of a session number. This is a problem for me, since search engines do not retain this value. I understand that SQL Server can be used to save session objects.. but I'm

I have an ASP page that is using an XMLHTTP object to request various pages from my server. I keep a single session throughout the XMLHTTP requests by bassing the ASPSESSIONID cookie through the XMLHTTP object. However, when the page requested through the XML object makes a <%Response.Redirect()%> call, a new session is created each time. Is this a flaw in the XMLHTTP Object? How can I force the session to remain the same after a...

Hi I've been experimenting with managing state using the Session object. I've created a simple WS with a couple of methods, one which sets a string value, another that retrieves it. Each method has the WebMethodAttribute.EnableSession set to true. When I run the test page the session is maintained. However, using a console application, in between setting the string value and attempting to

Hi, I've done some coding in my web application however right now for an unknown reason my asp.net 2.0 site is not setting asp.net_sessionid cookie and as a result, I am losing the session data in each page refresh or redirect. I really do not have any coding against how the session works. And I have not changed any setting in IIS. I even compared the 2 code(old and new) bases and didn't see anything funny

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
