As far as I know the Windows Event Log is designed for use by C/C++ programmers, so no PHP.

Dear Team, I am running Visual Studio 2003 Version 7.1.3088 on Windows Server 2003. I have written a C# application that must write to the event log. When it attempts to write to the event log, however, I get the following message on the browser shown below in bold text: Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required...

Hi, I am wanting to put some simple logging into my .net app. The basic features will be that errors get logged to a file and that there will be a configuration flag to enable more detailed logging. It must be simple to enable the detailed output in the live application. I have used Debug.Write() but this seems to come out only on the output window in the IDE - is there a way of configuring this to go into a file? I also saw there is...

I am using the following code instead of a very lengthly select case statement. (I have a lot of lookup tables in a settings form that are selected from a ListBox. The data adapters are given a similar name to the table. Rather than making a long Select Case that could become obsolete if lookup tables are added and the source table of the ListBox is edited I came up with this code.) This code works but of course it gives me build...

Hi Everybody, I have been looking at problems with my Windows Forms C# application and it's little Jet 4 (Access) database for the last few days. The Windows Forms app implements a facade and implementation, data abstraction layer. But because each data adapter in the implementation layer has a connection object that opens and closes as needed, I found I got several errors from the Jet engine when there were simultaneous connections to...

I have created an C++ application with Windows Forms, ADO and SQL server 2005. Now I need to change something and started debugging the code. Then suddenly I receive an error. "An unhandled exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException' occurred in mscorlib.dll Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." The progran ends on a windows form designer...

Getting errors after following the MSDN article on using VB.NET (and VS2005) for "Implementing a Managed OnSave Event Sink" for Exchange Server 2007. Not sure, but part of the problem may be that it's the 64-bit version of Exchange 2007 installed on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64, while the Exchange 2007 SDK samples seem mostly geared toward 32-bit. Even at that, I was able to build the TLB and install it into COM+ Component Services,...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
