Report Letter Builder and Generator dynamically.

Before i spend hours coding this thing, i want to see if there's already a solution or one of you has built something close to it. Please suggest anything that may relate to any of the following

Goal: The user creates letter and report templates and executes it and it will print the letter and report based on the criteria (usually date range or person information)

I want the user to modify the report and letter templates through the browser (the letters through WYSIWYG editor) This is the "Report Builder" page.

The template info will be saved in the database, and through another page "Report Generator", the user is able to Run the reports he created.

The only problem i have is in the complex queries, the most simple query for one of these reports or letters accesses 3 tables.

The user has no knowledge of SQL so i can make them enter a query. (which i might end up doing if i end up doing all the report building for them)


The interface would be similar to the MySql Admin table query page, that kinda build the SQL for you and returns the result?



Question:

Before I undergo this endeavor, is there any place that you know of? website, program, opensource that i can perhaps look into before i build this thing.

By type in Type for them.

i.e. they select the type of query, say drop down box of SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, etc.

Then choose table name, then set Field Names, WHERE, SOrt, etc, manually.

BUT this works great! for one table, sometimes i query three tables, i can't think of a GUI that lets the user (with no SQL knowledge) query the DB for the info they need.

This system is not public, the people who use it don't really wanna SQL inject their own system :)

its in intranet, and if someone from outside hacks into their network, it won't be through my code, if they did hack it, my code wouldn't help them at all, they'd just crack the mysql database or look in configuration file for the password...... see? not my problem.

my problem is to give the user a way to query its complex data


is THERE anyone that could help? i realize this thread is no longer in the "Unanswered " category... do i have any hope of getting it looked at?
