We're installing a new server at the office and this will be the first
server we set up from which we host our website. We got tired of
dealing with Interland and decided to bring our hosting in-house. The
guy doing most of the work struggled with sendmail for awhile and then
gave up. Now he's installing Postit, or Postfix, or whatever it's
called.
Does the PHP mail function depend on sendmail, or can it use any mta
software?

Hoping someone can help me out with this problem. First problem, is I
am unable to view my php error log. In my php.ini I have my log in
/var/www/logs/php_error_log. However, it has remained empty.
Secondly, my sendmail works fine from command prompt. However, when
trying to send mail through a php script (I have tried a couple), it
says it is succesfull, but my mail logs show nothing going out. No
error messages. Can someone take a look...

Hi
I have a standalone machine running Mandrake 10 with apache server and
PHP installed.
The PHP mail() function is working but very slowly. It takes about
10-20 seconds to send a single email. Can anyone advise me on what
could be causing this? I have tried using mail() on other apache
setups and the response time has been much faster.

I'm working with a LAMP platform - PHP 5.1.4, MySQL 5.0.21, RedHat
Enterprise 4... Running Sendmail 8.x.
I'm using the PHP mail() function to send some confirmation emails out
when a user submits a form. My understanding is that this is basically
a wrapper for sendmail (specifically, sendmail -t -i).
In my development environment, this works great. Everything is fast
and wonderful.

I understand (perhaps wrongly) that the mail() function relies on Sendmail
being installed on the server.
However I am wanting to run Postfix and Sendmail will not be loaded.
Ideally I would have liked to have setup a seperate machine as an email
server but the machine I was about to use has suddenly developed a major
dislike for just about any memory stick I insert and therefore is not
operational.

differs in many ways from the Unix implementation. First, it doesn't
use a local binary for composing messages but only operates on direct
sockets which means a MTA is needed listening on a network socket
(which can either on the localhost or a remote machine). "
Does this mean that the sendmail binary is NOT needed on windows?

it says that I have to be careful about what I send to the sendmail process
via popen(). Does that also apply to the Subject: line?
(I'm opening a process rather than simply using mail() so that I can set the
return-path header with sendmail's -f switch and catch bounces.)
My From: and To: are hardcoded and *not* taken from any webform...

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
