Some time ago I set up an ASP application that used a login page which
checked a username and password against a database to determine a users
authorization to access certain pages on the site. This was done by setting
a session variable within the application if the user was authorized and
using code one each page for which protection was required to check for the
status of the session variable.
Now I am aware of the various techniques...

Hi there,
I am busy writing a new asp.net application and I am reusing some of my
existing asp functions and methods in a user control. I need access to
session, request and response in some of the functions and I can't find out
how to do it. Here is an example of what I do and I get the following
Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or
shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the...

I have the following scenario:
I have a user control that contains a registered menu control. The menu and
other information on the user control is specific to the user accessing the
site. This user control is used on many pages. In order to create this
control, I need to access information in the Active Directory to create both
the menu and other info displayed on the control.
This access takes some time and I wanted to cache this...

Hi
What is the recommended way to store a user's database credentials across
the pages of a web application so that each time the database is accessed the
system doesn't have to ask them for their username and password again
We have previously stored these in a session variable (encrypted) and
retrieved from their - but are worried about the impact on performance if the
number of users increases.
Had thought about cookies but worried...

Hi all,
I have been working on an ASP.NET application that is a kind of wizard ( a
list of sequential pages ). We built that application for the CLIENT-A and it
worked fine. After six months CLIENT-B came along and and requested the same
application but with little bit different requirements (both in terms of the
front-end and back-end processing), so we had to create a new application for
that client. Now came CLIENT-C !!!!!!
I am...

I have created a MySQL database for my company which is accessed by PHP
pages. I would like to permit some users to edit the records but allow
others read-only access. However, I don't want to have to enter a password
every time I want to edit a record. Is there a way to use our network login
to do this? If not, what is the easiest way to accomplish this? The
database is running on our server and is not accessible via the net.
Any help...

I have a (self proclaimed ) very nice and well designed
database that organizes my clients, contacts, projects and
documents sent to my clients (including a report generator in MS
Word).
At this moment, the database is used by appr. 100 users in two
countries. So far, no problems, but I have the feeling that I
should take this thing a bit further. I would like to create a
user interface (a copy of the current user interface) that runs...

i'm making Form authenticate page to let the user first logon before
using the application. However, like most security manner, the new
user is needed to first logon and forced to change password before
using the application.
My problem is
- When the user passed the authentication at logon page, we need to
redirect them to change thier password. but anyway the user can type
at the address bar to surf other pages on the application. What...

Environment:
Windows 2000 Server
IIS 5.0
Access 2003
IIS is set up for basic authentication. This means I can set rights for logged in users using NTFS file permissions. This all works well for simple protection of a few pages. I have several web pages that allow employees from different departments to enter order statuses, deliveries, schedules, etc. The web pages were developed using Access's data access pages. I've done very little with...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
