Streaming ZIP -- Only extracts relative files?

88 New Member
Hi, guys!

I have a quick question.

If you have a zip file that looks something like this (when opened in WInZip/Rar)

file.zip
|
|---- folder 1
|___|---- folder 1.1
|______|---- file 1.1
|
|---- folder 2
|---- folder 3

When streaming a zip file (zip://__FILE__/#file.zip/folder1/folder1.1./file1.1.)
Does it mean that not the entire zip file is decompressed?

That is only folder 1, folder 1.1. and file 1.1. are temporarily decompressed, but the other folders (2&3) are left alone?

Is this correct?

(PS. I'm have been looking at the PHP manual, but that hasn't made much sense... "stream is a resource object which exhibits streamable behavior. That is, it can be read from or written to in a linear fashion, and may be able to fseek() to an arbitrary locations within the stream." ???)

This seem to be the case!

I made a quick test, filling folder 2&3 with junk (300m). The load time seemed to be unaffected.

!!! I'm so happy !!!

Ain't there no expert out there that want to rain on my parade?

Hi, I have a ASP.NET aspx file that needs to pass large images from a network storage to client browser. The requirement is that users cannot have access to the network share. The aspx file must be the only method that users receive image files.

Hi All, I plan to use streaming audio on my site. I had uploaded some .mp3's as part of a trial, and these streamed very badly so I tried .ram (RealAudio) files instead. The RealAudio files are a lot smaller in size, but they do not stream, a user has to download the file before listening to it. Which format would you recommend for good to high quality audio streaming? Should RealAudio files stream? If so how can I get them to...

Hi, Kindly excuse my novice question. In all the literature on ifstream that I have seen, nowhere have I read what happens if you try to read a binary file using the ">>" operator. I ran into the two problems while trying to read a binary file. 1). All whitespace characters were skipped 2). Certain binary files gave a core dump

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
