I wish to build a framework for our developers that will include a singleton
pattern.
But it can not be a base class because it has a private constructor and
therefore can be inherit.
I thought maybe a Template can be use for that, but C# does not support
Templates (will be C# generics in mid 2005).
Does anyone have a solution on how the singleton pattern can be written, in
C#, as a framework/ infrastructure class, so users can use this...

I work mostly in PHP, but at the web design firm where I work we are
thinking of switching to Ruby on Rails. Our lead designer recently
installed Typo on a client's site and he said to us, with surprise,
"All Ruby On Rails software has the same directory layout?" That was a
revelation to him. He was used to the PHP scene, where diversity is the
rule.
I've done some google searches and I see that the subject has seen a
fair amount of...

found a whole lot useful in that regard so looking for suggestions.
Also if anyone knows of any other, better frameworks for Rapid Dev. let
me know. Im trying to...

I recently started working at a company and it sounds like I am
slated for a new web 2.0 project that will begin in a few weeks in
PHP. I have done alot of C++, Perl, and Java as well as Ruby On Rails,
which I think Rails is probably what I'd prefer to work in but it
doesn't seem to have caught on enough so that many companies still
prefer PHP and it's not really up to me what to do it in. Anyway, I
saw on the PHP Wiki and in a number of...

I have been coding apps with PHP for several years. But I am getting more
involved in larger and more complicated PHP applications and want to use
best practices.
I use Eclipse's PHP IDE. I doubt I am using it to its full extent but I want
to learn more about, and compare and contrast, frameworks versus IDE versus
templating systems and MOST IMPORTANTLY learn what is going to save me time.
I know technically the IDE is the tool in...

Greetings All,
I had a question about OO implementation in the MVC pattern that is
directed at anyone who feels experienced with it.
My fuzziness comes from trying to learn OOP and MVC at the same time,
coming from a procedural background where I used neither. I promise
I'm not a dummy, and my logic skills are very strong, but this really
is a whole new world for me.

I created this framework to make social applications on the web, but
it turned out to be just the sort of framework a programmer would make
if they kept abstracting things into more and more organized chunks.
It's called PAL, and basically it's much simpler, faster ... AND more
powerful/flexible, than a lot of frameworks out there. While making
it, I studied symfony, codeigniter, kohana, and a bit of PRADO.
I've now made it open source...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
