I have a question related to the "security" issues posed by Globals ON.
It is good programming technique IMO to initialise variables, even if it's
just
$foo = 0;
$bar = "";
Surely it would be better to promote better programming than rely on PHP to
compensate for lazy programming?

I'd like your opinions as to why I don't use something like this...
A function that iterates through $_GET, $_POST, $_COOKIES and
$_SESSION arrays and turn them back into conventional variables. I
already have chunks of code at the top of some pages, particularly
large forms that look something like this...
$id = isset ($_GET) ? $_GET : "";
....one line after another pulling the variable back from the array and

Tell me if my assertion is wrong here:
The only way to prevent session hijacking is to NEVER store
authentication information (such as name/password) in the session.
Well, to never authenticate a user from information you got from the
session. Each secure app on a site must challenge the user for name
and password, each and every time the user accesses it (not just once
and then store it in the session). If a secure app is multi-page,...

Does anyone know a way I can register my own superglobal?
Meaning, I would like to make my own variable such as $_SESSION which
is available in all scopes and contexts without having to declare it
with a global.
Example:
global $testVar;
$testVar = 1;

even though register globals is disabled by default, i'm currious as to
how it and magic quotes interact. consider the following code:
<?
// assuming $_GET='"test"' and register globals enabled
echo $var;
?>
will the output be "test" or \"test\"?

I did some coding on a site where register_globals is set to on. The
problem I encountered was that the session variable changed without my
changing it explicitly. I knew that in register globals being on, that
all the variables were global variables. What I didn't realize was that
it set up an equivalence such that the variable is an alias for the
session variable with the key name of that variable. That is,
$_SESSION is the same as...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
