need help in installing php

19 New Member
I am a novice to web designing. But I am interested in learning different programming and scripting languages. Now I am interested in server side scripting and hence want to learn PHP. But even if I learn it I need to set up php on my computer to debug the php scripts. But the problem when I search google for help in php installation the instructions given in most of the websites is very complicated which I fail to understand.

I know installing php is not an easy task. But I would really appreciate if someone gives step by step instructions that are put in simple words that can be understood by a thorough novice. I have signed up with a free cgi web host for the time being which supports cgi scripts using php, perl etc.. Please also brief me what I should do to insert php scripts on my website (any special procedures) ..and how I should set up the ftp to drop my php script in my web host's server etc. My web host provider is www.zendurl.com .

I would really appreciate this help. Thank You.

Be aware that you not only have to install PHP, but also a server (like Apache) and maybe MySQL on your PC. Is that your situation?

Maybe it is a good idea, howver tedious it must be for a beginner, to start reading some documentation on installling WAMP (Windows, Apache. MySQL and PhP) on your system. A good place to start is the folllowing

sanjay123456: I don't think Linux is a solution here. Anyway, I can't think of any reason why installing LAMP would be easier then WAMP! You still have to go through all the motions of downloading, installing and configuring the stuff. And why is PHP easier to use on Linux then on Windows? Please answer me that!

And besides that, Linux itself is not easier to use then Windows. I am not a big Windows fan, but when I look at the hassle I have to go through finding and installing drivers! Then give me plug and play anytime.

You could also have a look at this page at Freeware4U.com who have a very easily installable XAMPP.
XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use - just download, extract and start. At the moment there are three XAMPP distributions: Linux systems, Windows 98, NT, 2000 and XP, and Solaris.

The version and file size listed here is for the Windows OS and is the Installer variation.

FW4U Comments: Very, very nice server package. I can't believe installing Apache, MySQL, PHP + PEAR, Perl, mod_php, mod_perl, mod_ssl, OpenSSL, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer, Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 and NetWare Systems v3.32, JpGraph, FileZilla FTP Server, mcrypt, Turck MMCache, SQLite, and WEB-DAV + mod_auth_mysql could be soooo easy.

If you need to run a local server, you'll likely find, as I have, this one to be one of the easier packages to install and use. Highly Recommended!

I did this once and can't remember how <blush> so I read the reportlab user guid. It says to unzip the reportlab archive - this is on w2k, BTW, with Python23 - to a directory and make a file called reportlab.pth in the pythod dir. The only line in this file is supposed to be the path to the reportlib dir. Then I'm instructed to open the ... ok I'll close and reopen ... the python cmd line interpreter and type import reportlab

All, I was working at a client's site when I installed Visual Basic 6 on a machine at their request. I have a small Windows Service program that just has a timer on it and it built fine. I try to install it using InstallUtil and I get the following message: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The account name is invalid or does not exist, or the password is invalid for the account name specified I am in the same folder my program is in (MyService.exe). I assume it has to do with Logon Credentials.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
