Can anyone suggest a flowchart program

I want to draw some fairly simple flow charts and process method
charts to illustrate my PHP site and its local network operation.

I dont need anything clever like code generation or stuff like that.

The problem is I cant find anything (ideally freeware/shareware) that
runs on win-98

I have corel-9 and MS office 2000 and someone said both of these could do
it but I cant see how without having to physically draw each box on each
page and so on.

Any suggestions?

Back in college we found a program called SmartDraw, which had a free
trial period. It was very Visio-like, and suited us well. I'm not
sure if they still offer a trial, but could be worth checking out.

Sourceforge.net appears to have a few Windows flowchart programs on it.

If you have EXCEL, it can do flowcharts. There are a few tricks that
can make it relatively easy.

I've looked at sourceforge and appart from the fact their download page
doesnt work they dont have anything that can do this. Nothing at all -
the ones listed I had to go to alta-vista for alternate sources and went
directly to and theyre no use sadly.

I thought this would be easy but it seems not.

I'll try alta vista for that thanks for the suggestion.

Hi yes I have excel and have used it quite a lot for spreadsheets.

I must be honest I didnt even consider it for this sort of thing.

I'll look in the help files but if there's helpful information on how to
do this elsewhere I'd welcome a link.

In Excel try "Insert Pictures AutoShapes" -- or google for "Excel
AutoShapes". The feature is actually quite nice. The shapes have
anchors / magnets so the connecting lines remain connected when moving
them around, etc.

I'll look around for a good link. In the meantime, I uploaded a copy
of a very basic starting template I sometimes use:

http://ogres-crypt.com/public/flowcharting.xls

Two quick tricks that make EXCEL easy to use for creating a flowchart:

1. Create a "template" shape for each type of shape you'll need. It's
VERY easy to copy an existing shape -- hold down the CTRL key and click
on a shape and drag it elsewhere. This gives you a copy of it that is
very easy to adapt and change as necessary, since you've already
customized most of the attributes (shape, line weight, inner text font
and formatting, etc). I also use it copy lines, then just drag the
starting and ending points of the new line as necessary.

2. To easily align the shapes to a grid, hold down the ALT key when
selecting the shape. As you drag it around, this will cause it to
align to the worksheet column/row grids. By customizing the width and
height of spreadsheet cells, you can create the grid layout (i.e.
spacing) you want to use for and between the shapes. I usually create
a spreadsheet that looks like graph paper -- a square layout.

A couple of other charting alternatives... here are two I use
frequently. Whether or not they will suite your purpose will depend on
the complexity and features of your chart...

1) Microsoft Office 2000... Create a new Word document, then from the
Insert menu, select "Object". Scroll down the object types and find
"MS Organizational Chart 2.0" ... one caveat here is that I'm not sure
if this is available in ALL versions of Microsoft Office.

2) Consider using a MindMap as your chart. There are several good
MindMapping programs available. I've used MindManager, Inspiration, and
finally, the free, java-based FreeMind. The last one at the very least
should still run on Win98, assuming you have a relatively recent Java
engine.

http://www.inspiration.com/productinfo/Inspiration/
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeMind

Plus since we're in a PHP forum here, the PHP/MySQL-based wiki engine,
WikkaWiki, has support for FreeMind built-in...

Need a script to allow users to post their social events, and having a devil of a time finding one. Some criteria: • Users can post their own event, without requiring any kind of registration. Would be nice if they could be assigned a code that would allow them to access their post and make changes or delete it entirely. • Posts must be okayed by an administrator prior to appearing in the database.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
