The Template Pattern in PHP 5

....and I've finally completed my series of GOF design patterns using
PHP 5 with the Template Pattern.

http://www.fluffycat.com/PHP-Design-Patterns/Template/

This is a pretty useful pattern, and one that you could easily use
without even realizing it is a pattern.

Essentially you have an abstract template class that defines a
non-abstract method with an algorithm. Also in the abstract template
class are more methods which said algorithm will use. Some of these
methods are be abstract and must be defined by any concrete extending
classes, while others are not abstract and may be defined by any
concrete extending classes. In the Template pattern, the non abstract
methods should do nothing if not extended.

Pretty simple, basic abstract class stuff. One interesting point here
is that the algorithm in the abstract class controls the main flow of
things, where as ordinarily a method in the extending classes would do
this.

OK, so I've gotten into a philosophical disagreement with my colleague at work. He is a proponent of the Template Method pattern, i.e.: class foo { public: void bar() { do_bar(); } protected: virtual void do_bar() {} };

Is there such a thing as a Singleton template that actually saves programming effort? Is it possible to actually use a template to make an arbitrary class a singleton without having to: a) explicitly make the arbitrary class's constructor and destructor private b) declare the Singleton a friend of the arbitrary class

Dear Experts, I'm going to create an Excell spreadsheet xml. So far things work very well. But in case I add <Row> elements by a recursive template call it goes wrong. See the attached XSLT and the result. Last 30 lines of the xslt may be the most interesting ones. I'm processing it with XMLSPY. Regardless of the xslt processor (ALTOVA / MSXML4 ) I get the same result.

In a schema I've been working on recently, a convention I evolved was to use a consistent naming pattern such that, for instance, a Resident could appear in a ResidentSet, and could be referred to by a ResidentRef, and the same pattern would apply to other types of entities. That amounts to a lot of duplication in the schema, though, and results in a need to enforce consistency in how the naming convention is applied. A solution I've...

Hello Experts! What does this mean actually. If you have a template with a type and non-type template argument, say, like this template<typename T, int a> class Array {. . .}; then A<int, 1> and A<int, 2> are different types. Now, if the A template

Hi, I have a compilation-time error on the specialization of a method from a imbricated template class, and I can't figure why. The problematic part of the code is resumed below. The error occurs with g++ 4.1.1 but not with g++ 4..0.3. Do you see where the error is ? header file : //--------------------------------------------- namespace claw { namespace graphic

Hey C++ folks, I created this today, just for fun. You can make object allocation for any class around 6 times faster, simply by doing the following. class MyClass : public TXpQAlloc<MyClass,N> N is a chunking factor (defaults to 10).

Hi there, I don't think I'll be able to describe my issue correctly, so instead I'll just give a pseudo C++ code I am struggling with. Basically I am looking for a 'pure virtual template' function that I would be able to declare in the base class (*). Thanks for suggestions, -Mathieu

Wow, this was harder than I thought (at least for a rusty Pythoneer like myself). Here's my stab at an implementation. Remember, the goal is to add a "match" method to Template which works like Template.substitute, but in reverse: given a string, if that string matches the template, then it should return a dictionary mapping each template field to the corresponding value in the given string. Oh, and as one extra feature, I want to...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
