license issues for developers

I am trying to get an accurate idea of the licensing issues involved in
developing with PHP and MySQL. Can anyone tell me if there is some
sort of requirement on developers providing programs using these
technologies? In other words, if all I do is provide an application to
the customer, do I need to do something else like include some sort of
notification about PHP or MySQL? Thanks for your replies.

Yes - the licences and discussion on the websites explain all this
(particularly see that for MySQL). Starting your research, or basing your
estimates of liability on a usenet post is probably not wise though.

Hi, Our company was looking for contract programmer to develop an internet/intranet application. We were approached by a freelancer who have quite a lot experience and his resume was impressive. But he did mention that if we download php & mysql and use the application developed within our company, we should be fine and there will not be any legal issues. While some of the folks see this as a low cost solution, others are concerned...

OK, so I'm at the stage where I want to make a choice between wxPython and PyQt. Currently I'm using wxPython mainly due to the fact that it has GPL Linux and Windows versions. I prefer Qt to wxWindows, but am confused with all the Windows licensing issues. For the moment this is just for my own tinkering and utility apps, but

I'd like to formalise slightly the license I release my projects under. At the moment it's 'free to use, modify, distribute and relicense'. This is basically fine as I don't want t oprevent people using my work in commercial settings - but I would like to retain the right to be identified as the author. I'd also like to prevent people selling derivative works where my stuff forms the substantial part of the poduct. I'd prefer to use an...

I have made a module derived from the Queue module deliverd with python 2.3. I would like to make this module (called tube) available for other people. However it is not clear to me how I can do this in accordance with the python license. First of all it seems I have to make a sumary of how my module differs from the original. Second it seems I have to include the following in

I have an assembly that I want to license to developers. I don't want to license the runtimes that they deliver to their customers. There are no real design-time controls, only some classes that they use by referencing the assembly. If I implement the LicenseManager stuff the LicenseContextMode of any object is always 'Runtime' which makes sense. How can I tell if the assembly is being used for development and not in the resulting...

First, I want to confirm my understanding that the "without fee" clause in the PostgreSQL license means that a party may not sell PostgreSQL or works derived from the PostgreSQL source code. Second, do loadable PostgreSQL modules constitute a derived work? Can a party develop new PostgreSQL types or functions and sell them as loadable modules under their own open or closed source license? Finally, do applications that install and rely...

I've been watching the flame war about licenses with some interest. There are many motivations for those who participate in this sector, so disagreements over licenses reflect those agendas. I don't have an agenda, at least not right now. I do plan on writing a few programs. These will be tools I need for firmware testing. They will be relatively simple things like tools for breaking down data by its structure for easy viewing,...

Sorry this is OT... I'm looking for recommendations for generating license keys (machine specific) for our application. I was looking at Quick Licenses Manager which looks pretty good. Is there any favorites? -Joe

I'm trying to implement a licensing scheme. There are three types of licenses: Trial - good for 30 to 60 days Interim - good for 1 year Fully Paid - no expiration Everything is working fine and I've even implemented a registration system where the users can upgrade by just receiving a code from me.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
