plain english please!!

Hi all,

I'm new to this group so please accept my apologies if this has already
been covered!

I have a site thats for my mates and myself to use from a chat room we
all frequent and have been trying to install a forum for god knows how
long now.

I'm not really very good with html, sql and all that stuff as i've just
started to dabble with it in the past 6 month or so, and the site i run
i built using a wysiwyg program.

So my problem is this; Can someone please write, or point me in the
direction of a plain english step by step walk-thru for integrating a
php template into my site so i can have my forum? Everything i have
found so far is just to complicated for me.

Much obliged!

download and install phpBB

You will need a database (mySQL preferably but it will run on any) and
some web space.

You will need to know how to transfer files to the web space using FTP

You will need to know how to unzip files on your local computer using
winzip

You will need to know the server address, name and password for your
database

If you need help on any of the above, I would suggest that it is
currently beyond you and that you should learn some more about how
interactive web sites work. If you can do all of this then phpBB comes
with easy install and set up tools and has lots of templates

Hi I haven't done any "serious" dot net development in over six months, but I am about to start a new job where I will be doing it every day. I want to get myself a couple of good books to arm myself with when I enter the new job. My level is "experienced" but certainly not "expert". I need something which serves as a good "reference" type book, for working with, but also explains some of the basics in a plain english way.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the wording but from what I think the standard says: 1. it's impossible to swap a restrict pointer with another pointer, i.e. int a = 1, b = 2; int * restrict ap = &a; int * restrict bp = &b;

I noticed something interesting today. In C++, you write: try { throw foo; } catch { } and all three keywords are verbs, so when you describe the code, you can use the same English words as in the program source, "You try to execute some code, but it throws a foo, which is caught by the handler".

hi folks does anyone know of any articles on the web that explain clearly what is happening (in detail) when you post an .aspx page to the web server and when it returns a new page to your browser? I'd just like to know this sort of thing as I think it will make me a better ASP.net programmer Regards and many thanks in advance CharlesA

I have been learning about asynchronous method calls and I keep coming across this term, "marshal" and I would like to know what it means - specifically. AFAIKT, it means "send" but I suspect there is a bit more than that. Looking to online docs, MSDN talks about the System.Runtime.Interop.Marshal class - but I don't think that's relevant to what I'm seeing. Maybe it is... The following is an example of the sort of thing I've been...

Hi all. There is a challenge question I encountered recently, which says: "In plain English, there are six different ways when you want to tell someone else about the current time: It is five past seven. It is eleven to ten. It is half past nine. It is a quarter past eight. It is a quarter to ten.

Ok, I have a couple of quirky things going on with my database. The first is my Rank formula. For some reason I have to have two Rank fields in order for at lest one to be correct. **I have attached the sample database if you want to view that also** The second one is when I’m trying to make a master join query from all my tables. This one I’ve been having trouble with all day!

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
