Hello, I am looking to upgrade my versions of PHP & MySQL on my server. I am wondering what websites you would recommend that are easy to fallow and with step by step instructions on how to upgrade both of these. Also how to keep all of the extions or even install more extions for PHP. Thanks, Jeremy Ross

I got an email from my web host stating that they are going to upgrade their PHP on the server from 4.3.8 to 4.3.10. Are there any known problems with this upgrade that need to be addressed in the PHP scripts I use? I'm sure there will always be some small glitches in an upgrade like this but I'm looking for any info on the scale of any "register globals = off" type changes. Thanks

I'm having difficulty embedding a managed C++ control in Internet Explorer. I'm using the same object syntax in the html as I would for a c# control, but IE doesn't seem to find the control in the dll. Is there a different object syntax used to identify a control in a managed c++ dll? Thanks, Paul

I understand the basics of what managed code offers and that you open yourself up to security issues if you allow unmanaged code. We already have a decent amount of VB6 code to include COM DLLs. If we put wrappers around some of our code or leave some "asis" what makes our existing production code 'evil' just because it is now considered 'unmanaged'? It may seem like a simple niave question, but the definitions for managed and...

I have been using a prepackaged WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL PHP) installation and along the way (over several years) have modified this and that, added vhosts, modified php.ini the way I want, set up a live php manual (docref_root), moved DLLs, and a thousand other things. Problem is, I have not had to modify anything in a *long* time. Everything works wonderfully as is, I just want to try out some newer features (5.0.4). Quite...

Help Needed: Upgrade Fedora 4 / Apache 2 to PHP 5.2.x from 5.0.4 I've been testing Joomla as a content manager for the County offices, and it looks pretty good. Unfortunately, I decided to upgrade it from the 1.0.13 version to 1.5 as we get ready to go live with the web site... and the update installation gives an error in XML processing, which seems (from what I've been able to dredge up in forum discussions) to stem from a known bug in...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
