Hi folks, I am unable to solve the following problem, which should not be new, but I cannot find an appropriate solution anywhere: One python process ("daemon") waits for messages. Another python program ("client"), which is NOT forked off the daemon (but is on the same Linux machine), sends that message to the daemon. This of course can be nicely done with Unix domain sockets (AF_UNIX),

An associate has asked me to take a look a problem he's having with starting mysql. I thought I'd give it a shot to learn some more about mySQL before having him turn it over to someone more knowledgeable than I. But I have to ask here first. Attempting to connect to the database via mysqladmin or mysql results in the error (paraphrased) "Cannot connect to local database using socket "/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock". That is the path to...

Using the org.postgresql.Driver JDBC driver is it possible to connect to Postgres using a unix domain socket instead of a TCP socket (so you don't have to start the postmaster with -i)? Using a TCP socket instead of a unix socket seems to slow down requests that return large result sets by a factor of 3 on the same machine. What's the point of all the extra CPU overhead if you're on the same machine? A high-volume server can really do...

Hi, I have ASP.NET application running on standalone (not part of the domain) Windows 2003. I use forms authentication for my application. The problem I have is that I need to create and read files on Windows domain network shared drives and also on shared via Samba Unix drives, which is equivalent to writing/reading to the workgroup computer. Please point, if possible, to detailed step by step description of what needs to be done. Thank...

Hi, I feel like I should apologize in advance because I must be missing something fairly basic and fundamental here. I don't have a book on Python network programming (yet) and I haven't been able to find an answer on the net so far. I am trying to create a pair of programs, one (the client) will be short-lived (fairly) and the second (server) will act as a cache for the client. Both will run on the same machine, so I think a simple...

Hi, I am using PHP persistent sockets and have a problem with them. The problem is that PHP only sends the data when the socket is closed. In the code example below the counterparty process (peer) received the connect request from PHP, but then never receives the message sent in the "fwrite" command below - and consequently never generates the reply which should be read by the fgets command. Flushing the socketFP does not make any...

I developed a small application in python which generate and receive some data from times in times (question of seconds) and I need to send this data to a unix domain socket (/var/run/sfp) and read the response and print on the screen.

I want to make use of UNIX credential passing on a local domain socket to verify the identity of a user connecting to a privileged service. However it looks like the socket module doesn't implement sendmsg/recvmsg wrappers, and I can't find another module that does this either. Is there something I have missed? Kris

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
