I've seen install programs that search a hard drive for previous instances
of a program, or to find installs of other needed programs.
I need to search a hard drive for any installations of OpenOffice. I know
in *nix I can start by using "/" as the file name and doing a recursive
listing of the file system from there. (Yes -- I know about permissions to
read directories -- that's another issue I've already solved.)
How do I find the...

Just recently I decided I want to make use of my ISP freebie webspace.
In order to make that easier, I'd like to be able to automatically
synchronise an FTP file/folder heirarchy with one on my local hard
drive. I figured this should be easily handled in Python, and broadly
speaking it is, but I am having a little difficulty.
You see, in order to handle the synchronise correctly, I need to be
able to determine what is on the FTP server...

I have an application that pulls images from a physical drive directory,
creates a PDF of the image, caches the image, and returns a link to the
client (using ajax, but that's not the problem). I'm faced with having to do
this without knowing where this PDF cache location is. It may be on the
local drive, or it may be on a network share. What I'd like to do is have
the client add a Virtual Directory in IIS under the project web directory...

Hi
I can use "Application.CurrentProject.Path & "\Template" to check that
a directory exists on a users hard drive. What i am having trouble
finding is the code to add a directory to the users C:/ drive if it
doesn't exist.
Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, so you know my problem, java is running out of memory reading with SAX, the event-based xml parser intended more-so than DOM for extremely large files. I'll try to explain what I've been doing and why I have to do it. Hopefully someone has a suggestion...
Alright, so I'm using a gps-simulation program that outputs gps data, like longitude, lattitude, altitude, etc. (hundreds of terms, these are just the well known ones). In the newer...

Hi there... I have a huge text file that needs to be processed. At the
moment, I'm loading it into memory in small chunks (x amount of lines)
and processing it that way. I'd like the process to be faster, so I'd
like to try creating multiple threads, and having them load different
chunks of the file at the same time and process it asynchronously.
Is it possible to do something like that, and if so, what would be
needed to do so?

I have written a program using MS VS VC++ 2005 Express, /cli pure. Upon
compiling it it works fine in the GUI development environment. It also works
fine as a Debug stand-alone. ut I had an odd behavior when it comes to the
Release varsion when I renamed its project directory name it was in!
I tracked the problem down to it being the NAME of the DIRECTORY the
application is in! Let me explain. I compiled the code, and it worked in ALL...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
