I'm concerned that with all the focus on obj$func binding, &closures,
and other not-so-pretty details of Prothon, that we are missing what
is really good - the simplification of classes. There are a number of
aspects to this simplification, but for me the unification of methods
and functions is the biggest benefit.
All methods look like functions (which students already understand).
Prototypes (classes) look like modules. This will...

Hi,
I've just taught myself C++, so I haven't learnt much about style or
the like from any single source, and I'm quite styleless as a result.
But at the same time, I really want nice code and I go to great
lengths to restructure my code just to look concise and make it more
manageable.
When I say this, I'm also referring to the way I write my functions.
It seems to me sometimes that I shouldn't have many void functions
accepting...

I am under the the impression that a variable is what is stored in a memory
address and a pointer is the memory address of the variable?
I was looking to use a function that does not return a value void
whatever(whatever) and not have a variable global but in main and change the
value in the void whatever function.
using namespace std;
void whatever(int);

I have some code that performs bitwise operations on files. I'm trying to
make the code portable on different endian systems. This is not work/school
related...just trying to learn/understand.
My computer is little endian 32-bit (intel, imagine that). My code deals
with binary data in files, and I've been treating all data as native words
(32-bit) for performance reasons. I found out that if I treat the data as
long long (64-bit) I...

Working with tkinter, I have a createWidgets() method in a class.
Within createWidgets() I create several StringVars() and
assign them to the textvariable option of several widgets.
Effectively my code structure is:
def createWidgets(self):
...
var = StringVar()
Entry(master,textvariable=var)

A few days ago I started a thread "I think C# is forcing us to write
more (redundant) code" and got many replies (more than what I had
expected). But after reading all the replies I think my question about
local variable initialization is still not solved. And some of the
replies forked into talking about out parameters. And the thread is
becoming way too deep.
So I open a new thread here. My question in the previous thead has
turned...

I'd like to write all code of a class in only header file. But when
there is any static member varia ble, I have to define it in cpp file,
not the header file. Otherwise, the static member variable may be
duplicated because two or more cpp files may include the header.
How can I solve this without the cpp file, which used to define the
static member variable?
Thanks!

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
