I'm trying to make a search engine for a reasonably complex database that
was originally developed by someone else in Access. I've ported the data to
mySQL and am reasonably happy with everything except the performance I'm
getting from queries with multpile joins. Although the database is fairly
complex, it's not very large (less than 2 Mb as an Access db, less than that
in mysql...

Hello,
I'm quite weak at PHP, so I was hoping to get some help understanding the
below code. First off, I'm trying to create a "query form" that will allow
me to display the results on my screen. I grabbed this code from the net
hoping that I could tweak it for my needs. I'm using MySQL, PHP and IIS and
they all are running fine. As the code is, it will display the form, but it
won't display my result(s). Any suggestions?

The table already has a fulltext index and from there I can use the
MySQL fulltext search query to get results as well as the relevancy
score.
The problem I have is that MySQL has a default setting whereby the
minimum amount of characters is 4 for a search. Being that we're
government and full of TLA (three-letter acronyms), that is not
practical, and furthermore, the app I'm building must be fully
portable, so having MySQL tweaked...

Hello,
Our website is currently developed in ASP/Mysql 4.
The dedicated servers on which it is currently hosted arrive at saturation.
Here is their configuration:
- 1 server PIV 2,8Ghz 1GB RAM with IIS 5 on Windows 2000
- 1 server Bi-xeon 3Ghz, 512 MB with MySQL 4 on Windows 2003
The website makes approximately 10.000.000 of pages seen and 310.000

I have been using phpdig in some websites but now I stored a lot of larger
texts into a mysql database. In the phpdig search engine, when you entered a
search word, the page where the search word was found was displayed with
about 2 lines before and 2 lines behind the search word itself. Let us say
you look for "peanut butter" an the word is found in a larger text about
sandwiches, even when it is on the 40th line of the text you would get...

I want to be able to keep records of how many times a keyword was
searched for daily, and from that I can calculate weekly and monthly.
At this point I have one entry per search phrase with the number of
