hi
i am an mtech student, i am supposed to do a project in perl. i am not too familier with perl or any other programming languages as i am from ec background. i am giving the spec of the project below... someone plz help me with the meaning of it. once i get what i have to do, i think i ll be able to do something. the main pblm is that i am not able to extract anything out of the spec. also suggest any helpful text books or sites.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
regresser -l <machine list> -r <regression list> -m <max jobs per machine>
-d <max load per machine> -t <max time for the jobs>

1. Should check that the machines are up
2. Should check the load on each machine

3. If load is less than max specified, launch the next job on the machine

4. Should exit at the end of all jobs or when the specified time is
reached.* Unfinished jobs should be terminated.
5. Should provide a report on what jobs were run on which machines

6. Should generate a report on min/max number of jobs that could be
deployed on the given set of machines
Default values :

-m : 2
-d : 60%
-t : 8 hrs

See, here is the problem with this. This sites Posting Guidelines prohibits the posting of homework/schoolwork questions for answers.

You are going to have to do all of the legwork and coding on the project. We will help where you get stuck, but we won't do your school work for you. How would you possibly learn anything?

Ok, that was not a difficult question at all. What operating system? Lets see, you can choose from Windows, Mac or Unix, how difficult can that be?

You obviously have no idea what you are doing. We understand your question, you are the one that does not understand. I am confused why you are given a project that you have no education, or experience, or other qualifications, that would allow you to at least start the project let alone finish it. Find out what the operating system is you will have to check the load on then go get a book about that operating system and start reading. Further assistance is pointless. This thread should be closed.
