Hello,
I am trying to parse .gz files to get some statistics - the list of those files are in the array @ribFilesList. I have a Perl script running on Gentoo Linux.
Here is my code: -
rib_loop: foreach my $ribFile (@ribFilesList)
-
{
-
if (!open(RIBFILE, "gzip -dc $ribFile |")) {
-
&logError($progname, "Unable to open ribfile $ribFile: $!");
-
exit $error;
-
}
-
while(defined(my $line = <RIBFILE>))
-
{
-
chomp($line);
-
my ($peer,$prefix) = (split(/\|/,$line,7))[3,5];
-
if($prefix eq $prefix_unique_hash)
-
{
-
#The prefix exists in this rib file
-
$counter_file=$counter_file+1;
-
close(RIBFILE);
-
next rib_loop;
-
}
-
}
-
close(RIBFILE);
-
The open doesnt give an error so the code doesnt exit, however sometimes I get the error: "gzip: stdout: Broken pipe", do you know why this happens? I try to close the RIBFILE before going to another iteration of the loop to avoid this but it still persists. Any ideas why?
Thanks!

I am reading a large text file a chunk at a time using the
readlines(buffer_size) statement. I get an IOERROR ERRNO 32 Broken
Pipe command when I "pipe" the output to MYSQL database using the
following command:
python script.py | mysql
I am using RED HAT 9 Linux. The problem only happens if I use the pipe
to MYSQL. It breaks but it gets to process around 1000 MYSQL
statements.

This is long. Bear with me, as I will really go through all the convoluted
stuff that shows there is a problem with streams (at least when used to
redirect stdout).
The basic idea is that my application (VB.NET) will start a process,
redirect its stdout and capture that process' output, displaying it in a
window.
I've written a component for this, and a test application for the component.
It allows me to specify a command to execute,...

Today i need to use Python to compress/decompress gzip files. Since
i've read the official Python tutorial 8 months ago, have spent 30
minutes with Python 3 times a week since, have 14 years of computing
experience, 8 years in mathematical computing and 4 years in unix admin

I don't know if this is the right newsgroup because the question is maybe a bit linux specific so if not slap me ;-)
I'm trying to send the output of a perl-script to a socket.
So I'm opening a pipe to the program (FILE fp = popen("foobar.pl", "r")) and read and write it directly to the socket.. This is my code:
------
while(!feof(fp))
{
bytes = fread(b,1,1024,fp);
fwrite(b,1,bytes,sock);

Hi,
Can someone explain what a broken pipe is? The following produces a
broken pipe error:
----------
import subprocess as sub
p = sub.Popen(, stdin=sub.PIPE, stdout=sub.PIPE)

I have tried to search Google, but I cannot seem to find a library to
decompress a gzip string or char to a string or char. I want to write
something that allows libcurl to access a page, save the output to a
string. I do not want to save a page every time I access one.

Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble with a python script I wrote, though I'm not
sure if it's related directly to python, or one of the other software
packages...
The situation is that I'm trying to create a system backup script that
creates an image of the system, filters the output though gzip, and then
uploads the data (via ftp) to a remote site.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
