(Slightly OT.) Does anybody here who works in both PHP and Perl happen to know whether there is a Perl equivalent to PHP's file(url)? I need to get the HTML output of a file as served through HTTP into some form so that I can write it locally (on the same host machine) as static HTML, and some complicated facts about permissions on the machine I'm working on may make it necessary to work through Perl for this part rather than PHP. I've...

Just bumped into another irresponsibility in perl. the crime in question this time is the module File::Basename. Reproduction: 1. create a directory containing a file of this name: "cdrom.html". 2. "use File::Basename;", with the line: ($name,$path,$suffix) = fileparse($File::Find::name, ('.html', '.m'));

Hi, I'm having a problem using the Copy module on a ClearCase view that's been set as "readonly" (i.e. ct chview -readonly <view tag>). I want to copy a file out of this view and put it in another directory that's outside of ClearCase. The strange thing is that the copy command actually copies correctly. The problem is that it returns a "0" errorcode because of the fact that the view is readonly. I guess "copy" still tries to write...

Split File Fullpath Into Parts Xah Lee, 20051016 Often, we are given a file fullpath and we need to split it into the directory name and file name. The file name is often split into a core part and a extension part. For example: '/Users/t/web/perl-python/I_Love_You.html' becomes

Good day all, and thank you in advance for your help. No - MANY thanks in advance for your help - I know nothing about using databases on Web servers. I am about to discuss a project with a client who is in the apartment rental business. He solicits "For Rent" listings from property owners and managers, advertises the apartments, shows them, takes applications and like that. His inventory, as it were, is a list of vacant apartments that...

In a previous job, we had Perl scripts which could interact with a SQL DB using Perl's DBI module We were able to programmatically add, delete and query tables using this module. Is it possible to do something similiar with Perl? (and not VBA)??? The reason I ask is because I want to use Access instead of MySQL because with Access, I can design Forms and Queries to display data relatively quickly. With MySQL, I'd have to use third...

I'm used to using the DBI modules in perl. The online docs mention DBD as expiremental. I'm thinking of sticking with DBI, unless there's some compelling reason to do otherwise. ---------------------------(end of broadcast)--------------------------- TIP 3: if posting/reading through Usenet, please send an appropriate subscribe-nomail command to majordomo@postgresql.org so that your

I have a Perl script using DBD::DB2, that runs during system startup on a Solaris system. The script is working fine during startup on many machines, except on one machine it fails complaining about a missing ".so" file, with Perl flagging the "use DBD::DB2" line. (I don't have the exact message since I'm heard about it from a remote sysadmin who only saw it scroll by on the console). However, if I login as root on that machine and run...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
