You have posted your question under Perl Articles instead of the Perl Forum.
I have moved it across for you.

Hi, I have a program which takes the output filename argument from stdin. Once the program knows the output filename, it tries to open it. If the output file exists, the program asks the user to confirm whether he really wants to overwrite the existing output file. The problem is that the second read from stdin, to obtain the user response whether to overwrite the existing output file, never waits for the user's response. It's as if a...

What is the best way to protect stdin within a library? I am writing a terminal based program that provides plugin capability using the dlopen() API. Sequencing program commands (typed) and library input prompts will not happen if stdin is supplied by pipe or redirection. So, I would like to include a statement in the pluggin

Hi all. I'm writing a little script that operates on either stdin or a file specified on the command line when run. I'm trying to handle the situation where the script's run without any input gracefully but can't think how to test for stdin. I can test for a file argument on the command line using getopt and validate its existence with os.path.exists. If it doesn't I can print the useage.

I am rewriting an existing PERL script I wrote several months ago. It is a script that is used as the action for a form containing several type="file" inputs. The script is run unbuffered and writes the data from sys.stdin to a file which is stat'ed by another script called asyncornously from javascript. In the end I am able to make a progress bar for file uploads via http. Anyway, I have printed sys.stdin to a file and looked at it...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
