I have a script which I use to find all duplicates of files within a
given directory and all its subdirectories. It seems like it's longer
than it needs to be but I can't figure out how to shorten it. Perhaps
there are some python features or libraries I'm not taking advantage of.
The way it works is that it puts references to all the files in a
dictionary with file size being the key. The dictionary can hold
multiple values per key....

A year or two back I needed a search script to scan thru HTML files
on a client site. Usual sorta thing. A quick search turned up a
neat script that provided great search results. It was fast,
returned the hyperlinked page title, filename, and the body txt (30
preceding and following words) in context with the search word
highlighted. Excellent.!
See it working at: http://www.ipt.co.za
Just search for "firearm"

What is the most efficient way to recursively remove files and directories?
Currently, I'm using os.walk() to unlink any files present, then I call
os.walk() again with the topdown=False option and get rid of diretories
with rmdir. This works well, but it seems that there should be a more
efficient way. Here are my function definitions:
def remove_files(target_dir):
# This attempts to remove _all_ files from a directory.
# Use with...

Hi,
"Snif" is an excellent little script to index files and directories.
It's just one single file, and the advantage is that you merely drop it
into the directory you want to index, point a browser to the script and
you're done.
But to me, the simplicity is a DISadvantage since I need to index
directories that are located down in the site hierarcy, and to which the
users won't have direct access.

I am a perl newbie who is trying to write a script to automate a
task.
I have a large collection of compressed archives (mostly .tar.gz,
tar.bz2, tar.Z, .tgz etc). This are stored in a number of directories
/ sub-directories).
I am looking for a script that will recursively extract a single file
from each of these archives e.g. the file INSTALL, for the extracted
file to be moved to a different location and renamed to the name of

Hello everyone. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction
here. I'm wanting to write a script to open microsoft word and adobe
pdf documents . Here is a little background:
At the company where I work (an inspection firm) all reports of
inspections are saved as word files. A particular file may contain many
reports named like this; 12345A-F.doc. This file contains six reports.
Most inspections also require a technique which is...

I am writing a script that will backup specified folders from one hard
drive to another (for example, backup source "C:\DATA", destination "D:
\Backup"), and was thinking of using shutil. What I would like to do
is recursively backup the specified directories (which copytree will
do), but be able to specify exclusion directories (which copytree does
not appear to allow you to do). My initial thoughts were I'll
probably have to use...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
