a dumb question i had on my mind:
Say you have a dynamically created web page . Isn't it more secure to
write it in php since a visitor will not be able to tell it is
dynamically created? But if you write it in perl, you have to put it in
your cgi-bin which automatically means it's a dynamically generated
page? security by obscurity . Is...

Hello,
another Perl/Python question: the subject says it all.
Perl is going to change dramatically to become a more powerful and
easier to (read|write) language.
Is Python taking a similar step (-> Python 3) some time in the near future?

Hi,
I am a Perl newbie and have a doubt on Perl exception handling.
My understanding regarding exception handling is execute a piece of
code, if any exception occurs, handle the exception and proceed as if
the error never occurred at all.
So code would look like
Eval {
# do something
}; if ($@)

This is just anecdotal, but I still find it interesting. Take it for what
it's worth. I'm interested in hearing others' perspectives, just please
don't turn this into a pissing contest.
I'm in the process of converting some old perl programs to python. These
programs use some network code and do a lot of list/dict data processing.
The...

For a project I need to analysis of web content. So I should get a web page as a input and then decompose information and other objects. Every object may have special processing after decomposition. I have doubt which language is more suitable for this situation. Do you think python is a good option or recommend Perl or other languages? I have to...

If Perl 6 ever does get on its feet and get released, how does it
compare to Python 3000? Is Perl 6 more like Java now with Parrot? I
just want to make sure that Python is staying competitive.
If this is the wrong mailing list, just let me know. Thanks!

I have a Perl script that I want to run as a set-user-ID program. Many
OSes don't allow scripts run as set-user-ID. To make this script
portable, it seems I need to write a C wrapper program that calls exec
or system to give the Perl script the necessary effective permissions.
How can I make the C wrapper program secure? or "more" secure?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it. ...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in...
