"database not open" - Rookie

Hi

I'm trying to connect to my oracle install using sqlplus and create a
new user. I get the error "database not open". How do I open this?

I'm using Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition on Linux Redhat 8

Thx

It sounds as though Oracle is not running.
$ SQLPLUS
/ as sysdba
startup
exit

I suspect that since you are asking the above question,
that you'll have other problems due to the lack of RTFM.

Greetings, I have to admit that I'm still a beginner in the database field, but I'm actively studying, and this is why I will be utterly grateful for the proper, accurate, and wise guidance to the right direction or specific paths of database studies. I simply want to make my first major database project a "personal knowledge database" or a "personal encyclopedia", so to speak. By this I mean that I want to gather diverse,...

I would argue that it is not. JET is a desktop DB engine. Sybase is a database Oracle is a database DB2 is a database. VB 6 is a front-end development tool. PowerBuilder is a front-end development tool. MS Access is a front end devlopment tool.

I have searched through previous threads regarding this error. I went back through all my code to make sure I closed and set to nothing all open db's and rs's. However, I still have one computer getting this error. This problem does not occur with any other users - some of whom use the database continuously. The user logs in, then goes to the Add Invoice form - it's a fairly simple form, single table recordset with a subform based on...

In an application I am writing the user can define a series of steps to be followed. I save them in a sql database using the field "order" (a smallint) as the primary key. (there are in the range of 20 steps) On the admin page the steps are listed, in "order" order and the user can create new steps and assign an order and all is well. The problem may come in using a renumber function which should take the steps in their current order...

I have a split Access 2003 database. I have signed the database with a Code Signing Certificate from Small Business Server. This works fine and users can have Access macro security on high or medium and do not get prompted at startup. The problem comes because there are two of us modifying the code. Whenever either one of us changes the code, one of us must resign both the front and back end of the database. If we forget to sign both, we...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
