I want to enforce such a constraint on a column that would ensure that the
values be all unique, but this wouldn't apply to NULL values. (I.e. there
may be more than one NULL value in the column.)
How can I achieve this?
I suppose I would get the most-hated "table/view is changing,
trigger/function may not see it" error if I tried to write a trigger that
checks the uniqueness of non-null values upon insert/update.

Hi,
I was wondering if PGSQL has a function similar to binary_checksum() of
MS SQL Server 2000. It is pretty handy when it comes to compare rows of
data instead of having to write long boolean expressions.
binary_checksum() takes a list of fields and it returns an integer value
which sumarize the row content.
Thanks,
Fed

PG peeps:
What's the prevailing wisdom & best-practice advice about when to let
a varchar (or any) column be NULL, and when to make it NOT NULL
DEFAULT '' (or '0000-00-00' or whatever) - in PostgreSQL?

I'm still learning python so this might be a crazy question but I
thought I would ask anyway. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to
join two dictionaries together to create a new dictionary using the
keys from the old dictionaries?
The keys in the new dictionary would be the keys from the old
dictionary one (dict1) and the values in the new dictionary would be
the keys from the old dictionary two (dict2). The keys would be joined

Table DDL below:
The tables I have contain Timesheet information. Each row in the
tblTSCollected table contains an entry for an employee into the
timesheet system, specifically by scanning the barcode on their badge.
A whole bunch of business logic periodically attempts to "pair" these
into logically matched scans. For example, some employees will scan in
and out of a single place of work. For these there will be a row
written to...

I am designing a new table with a few columns that may or may not have
a value on each row that is inserted.
What issues determine whether to allow a NULL value to be inserted for
that column or define a default value to be used?
I want to think through the repercussions of this decision before I get
into production.

Hi all,
I want to ask whether MySQL also treat two NULL values as different values like Oracle.
I write following commands but MySQL generate NULL value for all enrollment no field inspite of the fact that I have declared it as UNIQUE.
What is the problem?
mysql> create table student(enrollment_no varchar(10) unique,name varchar(10));
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.02 sec)
mysql> insert into student(name) values('Jhon');...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
