you need to recompile all those objects to validate it.

Hi folks I'm a bit of a newbie here, though I've tried to appropriately research this issue before posting. I've found a lot of questions, a few answers that don't really answer quite what I'm looking for, but nothing that really solves or explains all this. I'll admit to being stumped, hence my question here. I'm also trying to make this post as clear and detailed as possible. Unfortunately, that means it's come out like a book. I...

Hi is there a way to know if object (view, function, etc) are invalid ? let say a have a table t1 (field col1, col2) and a view v1 (field t1.col1, t1.col2) if I drop t1.col2, the view v1 is not working anymore. I want to know that information. In Oracle (8.1.7), i can query the all_objects, user_object table, where status = 'INVALID'. So i can recompile invalid objects (or

Before asking this questions I've spent literally _years_ reading (Meyer, Stroustrup, Holub), googling, asking more general design questions, and just plain thinking about it. I am truly unable to figure out what would be a "proper" OO design (in C++) for this. There may be alternatives to writing my own ODBC handle classes, and I may be interested in them, but I'd like to pursue this particular problem, if for no other reason than to...

Hi, I recently had a problem where I decided to store objects in a vector. (Previously, I had always stored pointers in vectors). Well, naturally, when storing an object in a vector, using push_back, the object I had in hand was getting copied (twice, in fact). That led to a problem, in that my object contained a "handle" to another object, and when the object being pushed went out of scope and was destroyed, the referenced object was...

Would anyone have any ideas or come across the 'invalid handle' problem? Even after setting diaglevel=4, I could not get much out of the db2diag.log to diagnose the problem. The only thing I could relate to this is DB2 appears to hang when this happens. Here is sample entry from db2diag.log: 2004-01-23-12.40.02.880000 Instance:DB2 Node:000

There are a number of things about using unmanaged resources in Windows Forms programming that is unclear to me. In C++, if you loaded an icon resource using "ExtractIcon()", the resource was valid until you called "DestroyIcon()". If you didn't, you had a leak. In C#, I need to load icons from unmanaged programs (.exe, dll) at run time and I want to make sure I'm not leaking resources, but it's not clear to me how to insure that I'm...

When I try to use a System.IO.Ports.SerialPort object to read from a serial port, half of the time I have no problems. However, after I successfully read from the serial port, then close the connection, either when re-opening it (in the same instance or a new instance of my program) I get either an IOException "The Handle is Invalid" exception or an ArgumentException "The portName is invalid. Now, I get the port name by doing this: String...

Handle Classes Handle classes, also called Envelope or Cheshire Cat classes, are part of the Bridge design pattern. The objective of the Bridge pattern is to separate the abstraction from the implementation so the two can vary independently. Handle classes usually contain a pointer to the object implementation. The Handle object is used rather than the implemented object. This leaves the implemented object free to change without affecting...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
