Will copying Oracle home directory install Oracle 9i on RH linux 9 system ?

Hello database professionals,

I am thankful for all ur support to me till now. I accept the
suggestion given to me by Mr.Frank in case of answering.
This query is related to oracle 9i on Red Hat Linux.
I have installed Oracle 9i Enterprise edition on a Red Hat Linux 9 pc.
I have created two small database and it is working well. I want to
install Oracle 9i on another system with Red Hat Linux 9. One of my
senior staff told me, to copy Oracle Home folder,
/etc/oratab,/etc/oraInst.loc.

I have copied as said. I created a user named oracle1 in dba
group[oracle is the name of user in my earlier system]. I have made
Oracle 9i installation changes in /etc/sysctl.conf and
/etc/security/limits.conf to make the kernel perfect for running
Oracle.i have also made the pathd definitions in ~/.bashrc also.

Now when i give
[oracle1@node3 oracle1]$ netmgr

The following error is shown.whatever i give like dbca or
oemappconsole i get same error.

X11 connection rejected because of wrong uthentication.
X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server
shutdown).

1) Will copying oracle files install it on Linux? or Is it that i need
to install the full oracle by the Oracle universal installer ?

2) Will the two database i was using in the initial system , work in
my new system ? or do i need to create a new database for the
second/new pc ?

3) Should i need to do any further step to up the oracle software and
oracle database ?

pls do help me.. with ur ideas and suggestions..

regards,

The retry as oracle1
1) Will copying oracle files install it on Linux? or Is it that i need
to install the full oracle by the Oracle universal installer ? No - unless there are changes in versions of (parts of) linux, this
should work. Get all groups, group id's and users the same, and change
ownership
2) Will the two database i was using in the initial system , work in
my new system ? or do i need to create a new database for the

It will work - but I'd prefer a new one - it will get another internal
id (for one), and another service_name (which can be changed).
You do have the scripts - don't you? It should be matter of minutes.
3) Should i need to do any further step to up the oracle software and
oracle database ?

Cherrish,

When Oracle installs on unix, the files will be owned by a particular user:
in your case by oracle user on the original system. You copied those files
over to a new system where you expect a different user (oracle1) to be the
owner. You'd have to change the ownership for all the copied files from
oracle to oracle1. Hopefully it will work.

Cheers,
Valentin

I've been trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on a fresh Mandrake 9.1 O.S for days, but I'm still not able to get it running. I've tried several install instructions that I found on the internet but no luck yet. Here is a short description of what I did so far: 1. I installed the jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar in the /usr/local/ dir and made a symbolic link from /usr/local/java to this 2. I installed all the necessary groups and users (oracle,...

Hi. We had a PC that had Oracle Client 8.0.5 and 8.1.7 installed in Default_Home (c:\orant) and Default_Home1 (c:\oracle).
