Install problem on Redhat

Hello All,

I've created a problem by not reading instruction and now I don't know what
to do :(
I tried to install 9i on my redhat 9.0 box as myself without going thru the
proper procedure of creating the oracle user/dba group etc. Didn't work so
I had to break down and read to directions :)
Now I believe I have things setup properly, I log in as oracle user, all
environment variable are properly set, users/groups, permisions are as they
should be, but when I try to install I get an error that oraInventory can't
be created in my home dir (I don't even make it to the GUI install screen).
If I give the oracel user write permission on myhome dir I can proceed with
the install but it's putting stuff in my home dir it shouldn't be. Any idea
what I might have messed up that is causing the installer to try to install
to the wrong place?? Without giving the oracle user write permission on my
home dir it fails before it even gets to the part where it prompts for
where you want to install.

Any Ideas Appreciated
Dave

> ...all environment variable are properly set ...

Are you sure? Specifically, have you set your ORACLE_BASE environment
variable? Sine you didn't post your environment variables, it *might* be
difficult for people to diagnose effectively, by the way, but from what
you've said I'd guess that one of the environoment variables might be the
cause.

When I did my RedHat9 install, I choose Workstation and customized the packages I wanted install. As a part of that customization, I chose mySQL DB; however, I can't seem to find any RedHat documentation that says how to get to these installed packages. I would like to just start using them, but not sure where to start. Any hints to get up and going quickly? TIA, Lou

Well.... just wanted to know if the people at the MySQL.org site ever look at the posts in this group. If they do, they can possibly us a little constructive criticism from a slightly irritated customer. Seems to me that if someone installs Redhat 9 with MySQL from the original CD source which is version 3.23.54a and then follows the instructions at the MySQL website on upgrading to a newer version....(4.0.22) then, it should work. I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
