I am a developer contracted to a large utility company. This is my
first job out of university. I have been working in IT for 2 years
now. My work involves application development, maintenance, and
support, Business Objects reporting and universe development. The DBA
where I work will not give me the DBA role in the production instance,
although I have the DBA role in the development instance. Is this
reasonable, or is he being a control junkie? 2 6431
reasonable
you probably really don't need the DBA role in the development instance,
unless you're doing DBA stuff
since Oracle 6, the DBA role probably really should not be used very much --
it's too broad in the privileges it groups together. generally it's a better
idea to have some more tailored roles created that match up better with what
different developers actually need to be able to do

Reasonable!
You've offered no "proof" that you required the DBA role.

hi,
just wonder, can we copy a role then add some new priviledges to the
new role.
hm.. i means, example; now i have a role named role_a. Then I copy
role_a to create role_b. After I created role_b from role_a, i would
like to revoke some privileges in role_b without affecting role_a. Can
I and how to write the script?

How do I grant all privileges for a schema that has a large number of
existing tables, procedures, functions, etc to a newly created role,
without having to issue a grant statement for each object and each
privilege? I want the role to have all of the rights of the schema
owner.
Is there any kind of blanket granting of all privileges to a role?

I am working on my first .NET development project that involves custom
role-based security per the project requirements. This lead to a general
design issue this week that really caused us some concern. I have described
the situation below because we are very curious to see what other, more
experienced, developers might suggest. The specific classes and fields are
used just to illustrate the concepts.
Our application uses role-based...

I have implemented role-based security within my ASP.Net application.
However, it seems the role is not passed to the authentication ticket I
create.
I want to use it to display/hide some content based on the user's role. I
wrote this to do it:
if (HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated)
{
plLoggedIn.Visible = true;

i seem to have some misunderstanding about how roles work in sql server
2005. i see that i can add a role to a database
(dbname->->properties->permissions->. THis allows
me to add either users or roles. Users can be added programmatically
using sp_grantdbaccess @username, but this does not allow for addition
of roles to access the database (i.e., sp_grantdbaccess @rolename does
not work).
Is there some other command that is used to add...

I'm familiar with membership/roles in ASP.NET 2.0. Rather than the
more common directory restriction, I need page part restrictions.
There are certain parts of my webpages that I need visible if you are
in a particular role. So maybe the "go to billing" button is only
visible if you are in "plan1" role. What is the correct method/model
to implement that type of role restriction?
Will I need to put in a conditional for each component...

I have a user object that is set when a user logs in. There are also
permissions that I get about the user from a web service. Currently I
take the results from those web services and store them as XML in the
user object so I can parse it when I need to look at them. I wanted to
turn the xml permissions into ROle objects, but does that mean that my
User class needs to make reference to the Role class?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
