We are writing a web based application which primarily will serve
information to run an ivr. Based on our current IVR getting 1000000 hits a
week, this is going to be heavy duty. We have very little time, we have
data retrieval classes and a struts based MVC. I'm contemplating a
CallManager to hold call variables critical for tracking and writing. Since
there are sever small tables it reads from, I am loading those into memory
with a...

I am an advanced database and vb programmer but recently my position
has called for advanced archtecture descisions enterprise-wide.
Although I have quite a bit of knowledge on designing relational and
normalized data structures I would like to further my knowledge on
large-scale distributed database design and maintenance.
Can anyone suggest a decent to good book covering some of the more
advanced topics of enterprise databases and...

I have a system that basically stores a database within a database (I'm
sure lots have you have done this before in some form or another).
At the end of the day, I'm storing the actual data generically in a
column of type nvarchar(4000), but I want to add support for unlimited
text. I want to do this in a smart fashion. Right now I am leaning
towards putting 2 nullable Value fields:
ValueLong ntext nullable
ValueShort nvarchar(4000)...

I'm switching to PostgreSQL from MySQL. Using the SAMs book called
PostgreSQL which has been great to skim the surface of the
differerences.
I had never even heard of things like triggers, views, and foreign keys before.
Any recommended books or websites (or exercises) that would really
help someone get to know not just the basics of how these advanced
features work, but some real in-depth insight into how to USE them for
real work?

I am having some problems in the process of moving an Access back-end
to an SQL Server back-end. Everything works but there are severe
problems of response times when the number of users builds up.
At present we are using the Developer version before committing to the
Enterprise version. BOL (quoted below) seems to suggest that, apart
from licensing, they are the same.
Can anyone please confirm that this is so. If not, what is the...

I'd like to know what you have read lately on c# that could be
considered advanced and that you would recommend. I'm looking for
in-depth rather than reference books. No starter books and something
that uses .NET 2.0 or published no later than 2004.
Based on Amazon book reviews, the only thing I've found worth buying
is:
The Elements of C# Style (Paperback)

Dear All,
We have a database which contains many tables which have millions of
records. When We attach the database with MS SQL Server 2005 Standard
Edition Server and run some queries (having joins, filters etc.) then
they take very long time to execute while when We execute same queries
on Enterprise Edition then they run 10 times faster than on standard
edition.
Our database does not use any features which are present in Enterprise

I'm planning to transport a desktop application to the web. A spin-off of
this application has already been put on the web by another programmer. He
used ColdFusion with MS SQL, Access, VC, and Java. It is faster than the
desktop application (written in VFP).
1. Can I get the same results using MS SQL Express Advanced and Access for
the internet version if used with .net?
2. Are the select statements limited in power, accuracy, size, etc....

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
