Standby Database Issues

Hi ,

Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 on HP-UX 11.0
EMC2 Disk Array

We are in a process of implementing DR Site using Standby Database
feature of Oracle. We have tested it on 2 NT machines here & things
are going fine.
I have few questions about Standby Database which I could not find
answer in Backup Recovery Guide.

1. What is the sequence of Startup & Shutdown ? Which shd be started
/stopped first ? Primary or Standby ?

2. If I want to take cold backup of Primary Database , can I do that ?
Do I need to anything else for ReSyncing Standby ? I am quite curious
abt this as Cold Backup on every week is a practice here .
e.g. I have copied cold backup from tape to standby & all archive logs
from that backup to standby site. Now everything is gong fine. But if
I shutdown promary for backup , what shd be the procedure ? Do I need
to copy cold backup again ?

There is a separate standby manual.

2 Making cold backups of a primary database with a standby database is
just what it is: silly. If you make a cold backup you should
definitely NOT!!!!!
copy the archivelogs to the standby site.

Hello there, we have configured a perfect DB2 HADR pair. After some days, we had following problem: After a reboot standby becomes standby, that's ok. Pimary becomes primary, i tought db2 could do this then, when standby and primary talks with each other, or find each other. So long everything's ok, but then i see the state ist catch up pending and they don't find each other. After reboot obviousley they find each other and then tere...

db2 8.1 fix pack 12 on AIX 5.3 This is a newly configured HADR machine. The HADR was up and running. I was 'playing' around some on the standby and did a db2 deactivate and things sort of went down hill from there. Though the Standby machine seemed to know it was a standby it would not connect to the primary. I could not even do a db2 get snapshot to view the hadr status on the machine. I was wanting to do a few HADR tests before I...

I would like to make a split mirror copy of a HADR standby database. Please note that I do not want to create a standby with a split mirror of the primary, but I want to make a split mirror of the standby (for a reporting database). I know that I cannot do a write suspend on the standby because it does not allow any connections. But what if I just did a split mirror of the standby, do a db2inidb, then ship the logs over to the split...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
