Unix Cron Job Schedule

1 New Member
Hi,

Can you help me in how to proceed for scheduling a cron job by looking into the time in the oracle table.

Say for ex: In a table it is mentioned that abc.dat file has to be extracted at 3 am every day, then @ 3 am cronjob should run to pull abc.dat file. If the time is changed to 4 am in the database table then automatically the cron job should run at 4.

Your help is appreciated ASAP.

Best Regards,
Sai

Once you submitted crontab the job executes based on a static schedule until you make changes and resubmit the job.
It is still possible to do what you need using cron, but it may not be the best approach.

See if you can use the Oracle Scheduler, which allows both: Time-based scheduling and Event-based scheduling.

Hi there, Can anyone tell if there's a solution to this for a Windows environment? If this was running under Linux, it would be a problem, but... I have a php script that when run, examines a file, and then updates a local database. I would like to run this script (in the background - not in a browser window) via the command line every e.g. 100 seconds - any ideas?

Is there a way to get my script to run on regularly scheduled intervals without using cron? My hosting provider sucks... cannot use cron... I was thinking perhaps I could create a file every hour in a certain directory and then fire the script when the file count reaches a certain number, and then clear out the directory... or something like that. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I've seen questions about scheduling ASP scripts posted in this group many times so hopefully this will be useful information to a few people. I just wanted to let you all know that our script scheduling service at www.cronservice.co.uk has been rewritten from the ground up and is now better than ever. If you are looking for a way to schedule your ASP scripts and don't have access to cron or task scheduler then you need this service.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
