External Tables w/ non ASCII chars

2 New Member
Hi !

I have some external tables set up to load data into an oracle 9i database.

My table is created as :

create table XT405 (
.
.
XREF2 NVARCHAR2(50)
.
.
)
organization external (
type oracle_loader
default directory xtdir
access parameters (
records delimited by newline
fields (
.
.
XREF2 POSITION(452:46 3) char
.
.
)
)
location (xtdir:'XT405.d at')
)
reject limit unlimited;

Now, the table seems to work fine in most cases, however, I am getting rejected records when the data contains non-ascii chars, for example :

e pers. jurí -- the i with the accent.

I had hoped that using nvarchar2, with a size that was suitably large enough would allow this to load, but unfortunately not.

The actual error message I am seeing in the logs is :

KUP-04021: field formatting error for field XREF2
KUP-04101: record 7185 rejected in file /var/opt/vci/data/XT405.dat

By a process of repetition of editing my data and tables to remove one column at a time, if I remove this column it works, so I assume that this is the data causing the problem, and the only weird thing about the data is the accented char.

Can anyone offer an insight ?

M.

Hello everyone, there have already been a couple of threads about IDLE's sometimes annoying disability to use special characters (in my case I would like to use for example german umlauts like "ä" etc.). I have made a workaround that *seems* to work, so I can at least store files in the editor that use such characters ( on the python shell I still get: UnicodeError: ASCII encoding error: ordinal not in range(128)

I have not been able to find a simple, straight forward Unicode to ASCII string conversion function in VB.Net. Is that because such a function does not exists or do I overlook it? I found Encoding.Convert, but that needs byte arrays. Thanks, /Ger

hi... i'm running into a problem where i'm seeing non-ascii chars in the parsing i'm doing. in looking through various docs, i can't find functions to remove/restrict strings to valid ascii chars. i'm assuming python has something like valid_str = strip(invalid_str)

PEP 1 specifies that PEP authors need to collect feedback from the community. As the author of PEP 3131, I'd like to encourage comments to the PEP included below, either here (comp.lang.python), or to python-3000@python.org In summary, this PEP proposes to allow non-ASCII letters as identifiers in Python. If the PEP is accepted, the following identifiers would also become valid as class, function, or variable names: Löffelstiel,...

I want to convert a string of hex characters (2 hex chars = 1 byte), to ASCII. Hex chars include zeros (0x00) as well, which I want to include in ASCII string. hex string: 5000005355.... ASCII: P<null><null>SU... I can do it and the string length also includes nulls but when I concatenate other string, it doesn't show as its part. string HexValue = "500000535500";

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
