Today, I noticed different empty string behaviour then I am
used to.
Before, empty string was treated as null, so statement
vcResult := 'something' || ''
would result in vcResult = ''.
Today, result of this statement was vcResult = 'something'.
Does anybody know, when (which patchset) did this behaviour
with treating empty strings as null change?

Seems to work (something+'' = something) in 9.0.1.3.1
It would be somewhat useful for you to tell us the version and patchset
you are on, as well as the OS info.

Not in Oracle... An empty string in Oracle is NULL.
NULL concatenated to s string is that string (nothing more,
nothing less).
I find you less fascinating; you obviously post in the
wrong group.

This may be a bug or simply a strange result of undefined
behaviour, but this is what I get with Python 2.3.2 on
Windows XP:

I'm doing a bcp out of a table to a file. Some of the fields in a
record may have an empty string.
When I bcp out to the file and examine it, the fields that have an
empty string in the database now show up in the file as having one
blank character.
Why is bcp doing this? I don't want the blank character in my output.
Thanks,

Hi all,
I am having a memory blank at the moment. I have been writing in C# for a
number of years and now need to do something in VB.NET, so forgive me such a
primitive question.
In C#, I test whether a string has a value or not by the following syntax:
if (thisString.Trim() == "")

Hi All,
I have a continuous form with all records. For each field there is a combo in the form header and the form also contains a Toggle button "Apply Filter".
When clicked, it changes to "Cancel Filter".
Then an SQL string with condition meeting the criteria input in the combo boxes is built.
I have noticed that when certain fields are not filled in (no space, nothing), the record is simply not shown. The empty field is not necessarily...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
