Crashing network

37 New Member
I am living in a place currently with a crashing network.

If a computer on a network is acting as a zombie can it crash its parent network? I ask because on of the network users seems to have a virus on his computer and this could explain our bizar network issue.

As you can tell I have exhausted many of the less dramatic causes and am grasping somewhat.

Hi themadjester!

What exactly do you mean by a "crashing network"? Can you describe what happens and what you have tried in more detail? And what kind of network is this?

Generally speaking if only one computer is infected, it won't (although possible) make the network as a whole malfunction. But this can be different in specific cases.

Greetings,

Is there a reason you have not tried to quarantine that one computer then check if the fault persist? this would be standard procedure if you believe that one computer is causing issues

also what makes you believe that one computer has a virus?

also as above we will need more description of the fault and also the type of network, Windows / MAC / Wired / Wireless

Well, things seem to be sorted out. The one fellow likely has a computer full of virus but thats his fault and his problem.

The reason I could not isolate his computer was that the router is a shared thing in this building and coincidentally kept in a place were he cnstantly has access to it so cutting him off for long enough to definitibly know he was the cause would be impossible.

The solution? (well for everyone else except virus guy) the solution was a different router. Now this really confused me because when the network went down I would troubleshoot and try to isolate the router as the cause (since it was the 1st thing that came to mind). I would power cycle the modem and plug my computer into it and still get no signal so I really felt that this must be a modem/cable network/ZOMG were getting disconnected by the ISP for spamming or soemthing.

But in the end shitty router [seems to] explain all.

I have a MySQL-server running Innodb. We have installed ~ 2GB of memory in the server. In spite of this MySQL keeps crashing due to out-of-memory errors. The server is a dual xeon i686 running kernel Linux 2.4.20-8smp redhat stock. Top shows mysql steadily consuming more resourses over a period of 2 hours, up to 1.2 Gb, before it crashes. Any clues?

Access 2000 running on CC3 network. Usually not more than 20 users. Crashes seem to occur randomly. Is it possible that a laptop going onto standby or hibernating with db open would cause a crash? Is there a way of avoiding this? When I say crash - the db becomes completely corrupt, will not open, is not recognised as a db by Access etc. and I need to restore a backup copy. My colleagues are getting fed up! I have not split the db. If I...

The IDE crashes about every 10-20 minutes for me.. its been doing this ever since I started this project (The project was a 2003 project but I recreated it in 2005) When it crashes, its usually after I close the app I'm testing.. lets say I'm debugging the app, and I get an exception, and I have to stop the execution for whatever reason, after that, next time I try to compile (as in either Build or Build in Run, or even build a setup...

Apologies, first of all, for the cross-posting. I'm getting WebDev.WebServer.exe crashing all the time at the moment, despite having done a Detect and Repair with Visual Studio 2005, but I guess that's not so helpful to you? Unfortunately, I'm not sure what actually caused the problem but, for the last couple of days (and without having installed anything or changed any registry settings between it working and it not working) every...

I have an Access .mde that is connected by linked table via network to an Access .mdb. I have a "setup" area that allows a couple of lists to be edited by exposing the linked table using the do cmd opentable. A user is reporting that when he opens a linked table to edit a list, (used primarily as a look up list), Access crashes with a Runtime Error and has to restart. Has anyone seen this, and what is the solution? Thanks Ryan

Hi all, I have a split database. Both the forms, and the tables are stored on a shared network drive (this is Access 2003). The users use the forms, and the tables on the network drive, there are no local copies. When connection to this drive is lost, Access CRASHES. It does it every single time. Does anyone know if there is a way to check if

I am working on a rather large application using Access 07 The application has been growing a lot lately in terms of objects and modules. About a week ago the application began to crash intermittently in design mode. The forms that seem to cause the most problems are very largely populated with controls Save operations for these forms take several minutes to complete. During the save the screen sometimes goes completely white. Scary!...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
