Hello, I need some advice on a financial application I'm doing. First, I suppose I should give a little background so you know where I'm coming from. For 5 years I earned my living doing COBOL programming with some occasional VB and web programming with ASP. Prior to that I went to a technical college where I took a couple of courses in c, c++ and pascal. Although now about all I can do is the basic "hello world" type applications in...

I managed to make pywin32 work from a network installation (not really hard work: a shared folder + copying some dlls + setting PYTHONPATH). PythonWin amd COM seem to be working fine from the network install, BUT when I need to pass PyTime to a COM object expecting a Date I get the following error: Python24\Lib\site-packages\win32com\client\dynamic.py", line 251, in _ApplyTypes_ result = self._oleobj_.InvokeTypes(*(dispid, LCID, wFlags,...

Hello, I have a question. We have a webserver in a domain, DomainA, and a webserver in a DMZ with local users and groups only. I'm trying to copy a file from the DomainA webserver to the DMZ webserver. Het firewall is configured to allow traffic via NetBIOS by ip-address. File copy takes place in a .NET assembly. Problem is described as follows: when copying I get an error 'access denied'

To demonstrate my problem, I have a very simple VB Windows application. It has a text box that is used to display a counter, a button to reset the counter, and a timer that increments the counter every second. I remote desktop to the computer hosting this application and run the application. It starts up and displays the counter incrementing every second. If I disconnect the network cable between the two computers for 10 seconds and...

I am trying to accesss a Mapped Drive from my asp.net code running on IIS 6.0. I am using a FileUpload control and fileUpload.SaveAs() to save the file to the server. I want to save the file to a mapped drive that is mapped to a share on the network. When I save to "C:\temp\myFile.txt it works but when I save to Z:\temp\myFile.txt is will not work. I also want to copy, delete and move these files. I have found some pages on the net...

A file used by my application may be stored on a shared network drive, so that it can be accessed by different people using the same application. I have written some code that uses an OpenFileDialog to allow the user to specify the location of the file (I then store the filename in the registry). This all works fine from when the application is run normally, but I would like to force the user to do this when the software is first...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
