File Sharing and Multiple Routers

3 New Member
I'm looking for a solution but cant seem to find one so far so I was hoping somebody can help.

I just moved into a home that has a wired network already installed. It is all connected to a wired BEFSR81 Linksys Router. Unfortunatly its not a wireless one so in one of the jacks in my house i have a wirless DI-624 D-Link Router piggybacked that will allow my wireless laptops to surf the internet. The problem appears when I want to do file sharing between a wireless laptop and a wired desktop. I'm assuming it is because they are connected to different routers that this is the problem. Is there any settings I can change in either router or is there something different I need to do on either computer.

By the way the two computers are the desktop is running windows vista and the lapotp is running max osx.

Thanks in advance for any help and saving me from having to go buy another wireless router.

Basically what you need to do is turn DHCP off on one of the routers, make sure that the router with DHCP off is plugged into the router with DHCP turned on. This effectively makes the router into a switch.

Here is a link to a tutorial for connecting multiple routers

Hi, how can I create multiple new file handles of a file without having to share to file to the other processes? I have a file that will be accessed by multiple threads in my application, each time a thread try to do something with the file, the thread will create a new file handle. However, if I specify FileShare.ReadWrite, other process can also open that file. I tried FileShare.Inheritable but it doesn't work. The reason I needs to...

Hello I would like to have several sites share a single web.config file. To accomplish this, I would point the root of these sites to the same folder. Is there any reason why I might not want to do this? (IIS 5 or 6 In case you're wondering why I would do this, we have many web sites on a single server, and there are groups of sites that need to share common configuration information. I'd like to ease some administration by having one...

Hi, I am re-writing part of my application using C#. This application starts another process which execute a "legacy" program. This legacy program writes to a log file and before it ends, it writes a specific string to the log file. My original program (MKS Toolkit shell program) which keeps running "grep" checking the "exit string" on the "log files". There are no file sharing problem.

Hi, I have a mdb file shared in the LAN. I want to write app that verifies if it's open. If the file is not open, then my app can open the file. if the file is used, then the app won't open it. I also want this app to have handle to this file, then when the user stops editting this file, he can close it using this app.

I only know a little bit about networking so... I have 2 routers, 5 computers and a cable modem. I thought all I had to do was plug the cable modem into the WAN slot of one router. Connect a regular port on the router to the WAN slot of the other router. And plug in the computers into any of the free jacks. But that didn't work. Everyone on the same router could see each other but couldn't see the others. Still had internet access though. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
