use a switch and set static ip addresses for your computers or get a inexpensive router and set it up for your home network to use. Some of the newer network cards are able to flip the transmit and recieve so you won't need a crosover cable but others are not able to do this. the simplist solution is to use a inexpensive router/switch and set it up with dhcp to alocate addressing.
they are cheap most anywhere even on ebay and it will come in handy if you get dsl or cable internet

Hello :) Into group-archive i found most e-mails, which touches PINGing. In my work i've used TELNET for testing if host is operational. Sometimes, for unknown reasons, workstation doesn't respond for PINGing. But in WinNT network, all hosts has a nbsession listening on port 139. I always use this script instead PING command (hope, will be usefull for someone :) ):

Hi all I need a simple program that allows me to check if an IP address is pingable. I am not going to send/receive anything to the remote host, just check if it is visible. Something like this: private bool CheckIPAddress(string address) { if (Ping(address))

I've been using ADSI to lookup a complete hostname from active directory from a partial as part of a script. It goes something like: Retrieve partial hostname from excel spreadsheet - authenticate this to a full hostname from active directory - ping the host to determine if it is reachable - if reachable perform a task. The difficult is at the ping stage, some of the hostnames on active

I have done some searching on this but cannot find anything specifically for vb2003. Sub PingComputer If PingStatus(PCName) = "Success" Then

So...here we go. I'm having an issue with one computer on a network not being able to ping other computers by name. I've spent the last day searching similar issues and I've tried all the steps recommended. If anyone has some suggestions, I'd love to give them a try - this is driving me nuts!! I am connected via wired-LAN to a Linksys WRT-600N router; there are 4 other computers on the network. The other 3 computers are working perfectly...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
