PC can't ping

27 New Member
Hi guys,

I've got this PC on my network. I can access everything on it on the network but I can't ping it. I tried pinging with the computer name and the IP adress aswell but It just doesn't want to ping. I can ping other workstations from it but not it.

What's happening here Guys??

Do you have a firewall installed on it? It may be blocking ping.

Yes I do have a firewall installed and then when I go to control panel >> security center >> Windows firewall. Everything is disable there ( greyedout). And on top I see this " Windows firewall is turned off. Your network Administrator is using Group policy to control these settings"

Please explain this to me, please

Your network administrator has decided that

a. You don't need to have Windows Firewall running.
b. They don't want you poking your fingers in and altering these settings.

However if you have a network administrator it may well be worth going and asking them why you can't ping that computer.

Just a question for you but How do you know you have the RIGHT IP to your computer??? I just want to make sure. =)

Hi guy!
I want to ask you that you have any blocked program? I think that you should check for all block program and turn off the block traffic network.
good luck

Enable sharing and simple tcp-ip settings on the workstation and it should work. Go in control panel and under add remove programs you will find Windows components, install tcp-ip and anything related to networking. Your firewall is disabled by default because you are on a domain. Check all your ip settings ipconfig /all in cmd and verify with other addresses on the network.

There is no reason to deny ping to the station unless its WAN.

Best to you,

I had this problem where the firewall was disabled and I could ping other machines and access the internet, but i could not ping (or otherwise connect) to my machine from other machines on my local network.

In my case the problem was a setting with the Cisco VPN Client. Even though it was NOT IN USE when i saw the problem, the solution was to
1. Open the Cisco VPN Client (but you don't necessarily need to connect to anything)
2. Right-click the system tray icon in the bottom right of your toolbar
3. UNCHECK "Stateful firewall (Always On)"
4. Rejoice, for i can once again ping and FTP!

Type net view into command prompt and check that it's name comes up, it is probably something to do with a Software Restriction Policy or some kind of program blocking it.

Hello :) Into group-archive i found most e-mails, which touches PINGing. In my work i've used TELNET for testing if host is operational. Sometimes, for unknown reasons, workstation doesn't respond for PINGing. But in WinNT network, all hosts has a nbsession listening on port 139. I always use this script instead PING command (hope, will be usefull for someone :) ):

Hi all, Being that so far I didn't get an answer to my below problem on the Oracle newsgroup, I figured it couldn't hurt to try here. While at my current job I've been working with mostly SQL Server, now I need to connect to our Oracle Financials running on HP-UX. The Oracle DBA set me up as a user and installed the Oracle client on my box and I have the tnsnames file, but I still can't establish a connection to the database from my...

Hi! I'm trying to write a small application for an online gaming site (flight sims), where people can add their local server to a list. Basically, I just need to be able to loop/ping each respective server - via a specific port (2934 or 2935) to see whether the server is still "live", so the hosters don't have to manually update their status on the site. Everything I've seen seems overly complex. Efforts so far have returned info via...

So...here we go. I'm having an issue with one computer on a network not being able to ping other computers by name. I've spent the last day searching similar issues and I've tried all the steps recommended. If anyone has some suggestions, I'd love to give them a try - this is driving me nuts!! I am connected via wired-LAN to a Linksys WRT-600N router; there are 4 other computers on the network. The other 3 computers are working perfectly...

I am sending semi automated emails within my access database using our companies internal smtp server. One of the issues I had was capturing whether people were connected to the lan to be able to send these emails. I decided to use a ping to test whether the server was giving a response, if it was then they must be connected and if not then they arent. The ping code is as follows: Option Explicit 'Ping function. Original Source code...

Edit: Sorry for the title, it's Visual Basic Express 2008 :) Is there an easy way to just ping a server by IP or URL and return the minimum, maximum and average milliseconds? Actually the same results I get in CMD when using the ping command. Can't find any tutorial that describes it. So let's say I have a Textbox1 and a Button1 and a Label1 for the results. How can I do it?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
